Re: SPAC: YASI (14U /11P) - Severe Tropical Cyclone
Yasi seems to have been feeding a huge amount of moisture into the low pressure trough currently crossing south eastern Australia, bringing very heavy rain to many parts of Victoria. We've had 41/2" between 5PM yesterday and 11AM this morning at our place on the fringes of Melbourne (the highest daily figure I've seen here since moving in 20 years ago - the annual average here is only 26") , and other places are reporting more. Flash flooding all over the place. Half a dozen houses flooded at the end of our own road this morning. More expected later in the day, too.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011 ... 130698.htm provides some more info.
Yasi, the cyclone that just keeps on giving! Looks like it wants to provide something to the entire continent!

Re: SPAC: YASI (14U /11P) - Severe Tropical Cyclone
I have always wondered why tropical cyclones last longer over Australia than over other parts of the world, I know it's pretty flat in some parts but US has pretty flat parts too and they dissipate quicker.

Looks like Yasi still has a bit of spin, even as it enters SA!

Re: SPAC: YASI (14U /11P) - Severe Tropical Cyclone
Yasi really does seem to be growing old and losing its influence now. The rain that was previously being fed into the trough over SE Australia is drying up faster than expected. (Dang it!~ I knew I was wasting my time digging stormwater drains this morning! )
