What data are you looking at, txagwxman? I'm seeing 2m temps 36-37 in that area for 18Z tomorrow. Those temps match the NAM forecast for 21Z tomorrow fairly closely though, but the precip should be ending by then.

Here's the 18Z NAM temperature forecast valid 21Z tomorrow (1 deg increments). Between 29-30 Tomball to Katy.

Concerning any possible ice in the greater Houston area, with the VERY strong (and dry) NW winds behind the front, any wet roads should dry quite quickly tomorrow afternoon. So it's unlikely there would be any travel issues if it rains then goes sub-freezing a few hours later.

18Z NAM fully in now, here's a meteogram. Note that the 0.03" precip (last green bar) falls between noon and 3pm, not AT 3pm. This indicates precip is ending with the temperature in the upper 30s, as indicated by the red arrow. Also note 850mb temps (5000ft up) in the 42-43F range at 3pm. NAM is saying some cold rain then precip ends, things dry out quickly, and temps drop to below freezing at IAH by 3pm.

According to the latest HRRR model, no snow in DFW through at least 7 am.

Since we've been discussing College Station and Austin (Portastorm), here are their 18Z NAM meteograms. Both are suggestive of at least some light precip once temps drop below 32F. But with 850mb temps well above freezing, any precip that falls would be freezing rain in both locations.

18Z NAM suggests a short period of rain changing to freezing rain and sleet. Note that the 850mb (5000ft) temp drops to 32 just as the precip is ending. That could indicate sleet, but probably not snow. Couldn't rule out a few flakes, though.

Thanks Wxman57. I figured as much about the snow. Wow, seems as though things might be somewhat treacherous down here.

Wow! Pecos is currently 81; Dalhart is 6!!!

Correction. 5 degrees in Dalhart. That makes 76 degree temp disparity between a 326 mile difference! Wow!!!

I think a lot of depends on how strong and how much wrap around moisture developes...

I've been surprised more than once here in east texas by wrap around well after the main area of precip is long gone..

It would not take much to cause huge problems for SE Texas schools and rush hour for thursday morning..

Wow, it's like waiting for water to boil for that front to hit Childress. Are we starting to believe the models a little more as far as timing for DFW?

The problem is there are no real monitoring stations just to the N, NW, & W of Childress.

I hope you get some Turtle. This is probably our last chance this winter to get some freezing precip.

I am lookin at my map...I am not as zoomed in as that. But given the NAM is already off, I don't think it matters too much...
