I have heard such a rumor of him going to Fox. Just a rumor for now.

Perfect fit. :) Hopefully he'll do web blogging so I can watch him without watching everything else on FOXNEWS.

I've seen at least one person implying that he was forced out due to his stand on GW. Jesse said that isn't so. Of course the person implying that is a strong GW advocate.

Wow, couldn't believe it. Now what? Quit accuweather pro (14.95 mo). He was worth it. Sure hope he resurfaces somewhere in the near future. Will probably take some time off though. Now who will we quote during hurricane season? Roker , Cantore? I think not.

Stunned by this news like all of you on S2K. I can't imagine Bastardi being away from the scene for too long, especially with hurricane season just three months away from the start. He will definitely re-emerge somewhere soon.

That's a shocker. Like someone else said, I had begun to just associate the two together as one. I think he would fit in nicely at Fox News

I disagree. At least Joe gets it right some of the time..............

But it won't be surprising if he lands there.

I'm wondering about any non-compete clause he may have signed at AccuWeather. They're known for such language in contracts. I had a coworker sued by AccuWeather after he quite and came to work with us. He had to pay AccuWeather a part of his salary for quite a while.

Joining 'heard the horror stories' crew. I can't imagine their stars having the same contracts as the bulk of their employees, but at the same time, I could still see the no compete clause remaining in there for him.

Hopefully he lands somewhere where he can make his out of the box predictions and we can get them w/o paying a fee.

It may be particularly true for the "stars", as they pose the greatest threat should they leave.

Don't know if any of you caught his next-to-last post, but he wrote that he was working on his laptop while at a gynmastics meet of his daughter's, and he was very distraught that he missed her vault because he was looking at the laptop.

Wrote something about how he wasn't near the parent that his own parents were. And the next day he quit. Don't think it's a coincidence.

It's a shame. Juggling work and kids is tough for all of us.

For the record, AccuWX is trying hard to cover for him, but the sad truth is, Henry Margusity has all the charisma of a bowl of mashed potatoes. I like Henry and find his knowledgeable and informative, but Joe was entertaining to say the least.

Geek, I think you are right. He was so dedicated to his work he would post at all hours. His family had to take a back seat.

Maybe he just came to a crossroads and decided on family.

Kudos to his choice, although all the rest of us will miss him. I'm hoping he does show up somewhere before hurricane season.

FYI, he does seem to be tweeting on a daily basis (Big Joe Bastardi).

His Facebook page was probably run by Accuweather though.

And his new facebook page-http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Joe-Bastardi/160146074041045
I look forward to seeing what he and Joe D'Aleo are going to be doing with Weatherbell since they are saying he has full reign to do what he wants. That is two of the heavyweights in Meteorology at the same place.

Does Weatherbell make public its forecasts? I mean, not every forecast but some of them as Accuweather does.
