Is there more coming later or was that it? I keep thinking we will have hours of rain and storms but so far it was just a little bit this afternoon. The radar doesn't look very active to our West.

Patience, my man, patience.

The warm front lifted North already, so we'll be in a long respite, without a lot of activity for a while.

By the time it starts to ignite again, you'll likely be fast asleep in bed; that's how long and late it's going to take for Southeast Louisiana.

For New Orleans I have it timed to come in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning, and carrying on past 6 AM, too, -- past sunrise.

So, bottom line is, don't look for anything to happen in the next several hours, contrary to what models show.

Ok, thanks. My local news showed this all being over by 9pm and then clearing out. As usual, they have no clue what they are talking about. I hate when it comes in so late, I like to be up to watch! Might have to set my alarm or wake up when I begin hearing the thunder.

I tried to stay up but I can't keep my eyes open any longer. Looks like a little is headed my way but from what I can see the bulk of the severe weather is north of us. If anything exciting happens my way then I will be surprised but I will just have to miss it. Night and stay safe to anyone in the path of the storms!

March 9, 2011
this Wednesday morning
941 AM CST

Hey Gang ~~ Meteorologist cyclogenesis here--->> WHAT A WILD WEATHER RIDE THAT WAS IN NEW ORLEANS, early this morning!

While you were sleeping, early this Wednesday morning, March 9th, NUMEROUS Tornado Warnings & 3 Tornado watches went off very early this morning. It was a memorable event, & I have a personal story to tell about my encounter & experience, too, later in this message about this weather event. This Severe Weather event unfolded, just as I predicted it would.

Here's what I counted: Including yesterday afternoon, AND during the EARLY morning hours of this Wednesday morning, there were:

18 Tornado Warnings Issued from the NWS in Slidell

9 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Issued from NWS in Slidell

3 Tornado Watches were issued; 2 yesterday; 1 this morning

4 CONFIRMED TORNADOES; 3 in St. Tammany parish; Lacombe & Bush, Louisiana, and 1 in Jefferson Parish; North Kenner

3 CONFIRMED SEVERE WIND reports; 1 near Folsom; 1 in Slidell; and 77 mph PEAK WIND GUST measured in Kenner, at the New Orleans Interational Airport!!! (I have damage pictures)

As I spoke to a representative of the NWS this morning, he led me to believe there could be MORE documented reports of damage to come, after they do some more probing & investigating, but I can't confirm at this time. Be sure to check the SPC website later today for possible MORE reports of damage that trickle in & get reported.

Almost 4 inches of rain; (3.83" to be exact was reported in just 2 hours' time, between 6 AM and 8 AM at the New Orleans International Airport in Kenner) No wonder why the flooding; that much rain in that LITTLE TIME!!
AND NOW....I'd like to share a personal story of my own.

That was ME that reported the rain-wrapped Tornado, just to my Northeast in North Kenner, around 615 AM, early this morning.

I seen rain curtains spiraling around a circulation to my Northeast, of where I live. The circulation quickly went out over the lake.

I was determined that some wind damage had occured, so I went out on a quest to look for damage. Sure enough, I found a few medium-sized trees downed along Joe Yenni Blvd. and also found a VERY HUGE tree limb downed, must have measured at LEAST a whole FOOT in diameter, and I'd estimate about 30 feet long! Plus I found numerous fencing blown down, along with numerous other branches in the street. The truth is, the anemometer in Kenner's New Orleans International airport measured a PEAK WIND GUST of 77 mph. I live just 2 miles away from that site.

I'll see if I can get some of these pictures to you in a future e-mail. It was very dark when I was out, and there was street flooding everywhere in North Kenner.

On a personal note, I lost power here in North Kenner. We went down by the head here, and I seen those green transformers blowing out when I was outside.

This was a VERY DYNAMIC storm situation. It's been years since I seen anything this intense!!

This was a major severe weather outbreak, (for Southern Louisiana standards), with 18 Tornado Warnings issued, by NWS Slidell, and lots of verifiable damage, and flooding in the streets here. The electricity in my neigborhood stayed out for 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Be happy you slept thru it, because if you were out and about in a car, like I was, you would have been stranded on the streets with flooding. I only made it thru the streets because my vehicle has a higher ground clearance, but my vehicular running engine belts were squeaking. A lesser car wouldn't have made it, and there were several cars all jammed on the neutral ground with no where to go.

I'll see about uploading some of these pictures later, as well. I may send you multiple e-mails with one picture a-piece, so look for that in your inbox.

If there is anyone on this forum board who resides in New Orleans or very close to New Orleans and is desiring to receive these similar weather notices I post on to my website, by way of e-mails, then you may send me a private message, using this forum board and let me know. This is *ONLY* for New Orleans area residents, because that is *ONLY* where my weather writings apply to.

I also write about hurricane activity in the Gulf of Mexico during the summer months, but only for activity that looks to threaten the Northern Gulf coast (Louisiana & Coastal Miss.).
