That link is killing both Netscape 7.0 and IE 5.5. Had to give my PC the 3 finger salute to shut down both browsers. Perhaps there's some bad coding on the page?

I'm using IE6 and Nav 7.0. No problems.
Map is not as crisp in Nav.
We're on a new server but haven't seen/heard issues.

Others...probs?????

Don't want anyone doing the 3 finger salue on my account. I'll PM with a couple questions/requests.

Thanks.

Javascript 2

#6 Postby wxman57 » Sat Aug 23, 2003 9:29 am

Ever since I installed the NEW updated javascript (2.0), it's been very taxing on my old P2-266 with 128MB of RAM (Win 95). I think something had been hung up with that javascript, as I noticed 3 of the little icons in my systray. I rebooted then tried again.

It looked like the page was freezing again, then after about a minute the screen changed from white to gray as my hard drive was about to start smoking. About 30 seconds later the page loaded. It's the same thing now with satellite/radar loops since I installed NS 7.0 with the new javascript.

But, as I type, I'm looking at print-outs of my new system:

P4 3.06GHz
1GB RAM
120GB HD
48X CD-ROM
CD/DVD burner
Radeion 9800 Pro video card (or new GeForce FX 5900)
19" flat panel display with twin heads

Comes out to $2700 - same as my old P-100 and same as this current P2-266.

Just got my new GIANT computer desk 8 ft down one wall, 7 ft down other wall with overhead hutches. Just like at work. ETA to new computer about 1 month (bonus time).

I think that'll solve my slowness problem for a few years.

With IE 6 (which MS thoughtfully dropped supporting Sun), make sure in Tools| Internet Options|Advanced, Microsoft JM is checked, Java [Sun] is not. That gets rid of many java issues using IE6.

Nice rig there - pretty close to mine (I'm a gaming fanatic). Sounds like you've already ordered it, but in the event you haven't, go check out those same components and price your own at http://www.monarchcomputer.com

They've got fantastic customer satisfaction ratings at resllerratings.com and I've had my last two rigs built by those guys. If I built the machine myself, buying all the parts from newegg or some similar place, I could save maybe, $40 - $50, but you can't beat their prices on quality components and they've got really good customer support.

[Edited to include the following:]

P4 3.06c (800 FSB)
P4C800 Deluxe Asus
2 GB Corsair Twin X 1024 x 3200 llpt (DDR-400)
460w enermax PS
2 - 80 GB Seagate Barracuda SATA HDs (RAID-0)
21" Sony Trinitron (flatscreen)
Nvidia FX5900 Ultra (256mb DDRII)
Audigy 2.0 gamer
52x Asus CD-ROM
Lian-Li P60 aluminum case

(he heh.... sorry, we gamers love to show off our specs. :D )

Well, it's not crazy if computers and gaming are your hobbies. Well ... maybe it is ... LOL. There are a lot more expensive and worse hobbies for a married man to have, though.

Well, I'm also into gaming, and can't wait for Doom III. No way your setup would play Doom III at high res with full detail. Just the FX 5900 video card is $300+. And you can't get a 19" LCD for less than about $600 now. And 256mb of RAM is bare bones minimum to run XP. I guess it's all what you're "in to". Besides, I'm a "DINK" as my boss calls me (double income - no kids).

Monitor prices -

Hey, I HIGHLY reccommend checking out e-bay for refurbished monitors. Most of the companies selling them give a 3 year warranty with them. I got my 21" flastscreen CRT Sony Trinitron (Dell branded) for aorund 330 - 340 inclusive of shipping. :D

Dell -

About three years ago I got a P3 1Ghz from Dell. I have to say the support they gave was FANTASTIC. Back before I knew how to screw with computers I had a mobo go out and they sent a guy from Mobile over the next day to install one for me. Can't complain about that. I just couldn't put together the components that I wanted with Dell or I'd have purchased from them again.

Dink -

Heh. Guess I'm one too - Married but no kids - spend my money on games and computer crap. LOL
