Time is going very fast as we are less than two months for the season to start.

By the way,the experts are starting to release this month their forecasts and TSR did so,downgrading the numbers from December and now they have 14/8/4.

Florida1118, you can add the date when NOAA will release it's first 2011 forecast and that will be on May 19.

Its warm and humid in the gulf already with a heat wave in Texas and Florida. Should be a wet summer in Florida if the mid Atlantic high continues pumping heat energy into the gulf like this all summer.

We still don't know about shear but hopefully we get a persistent TUTT east of the conus to deflect storms. Of course that doesn't help much till the Cape Verde season starts.

32.5 days left until the start of the Atlantic hurricane season,
15.5 days left until the start of the Pacific hurricane season,
and already so many fatalities due to severe weather in the US...

Water temps in the gulf off the coast of Tampa already at 82 degrees.
Dry south florida.
Lots of bad tornado activity this spring.
...not good signs for the upcoming hurricane season.

stay safe all

IMO,the odds of something forming before June 1rst in the Atlantic Basin are fading as the models are not too bullish towards development. That may change in the comming days if the models turn bullish.

Here is the famous mountain chart.

High latitude troughs aren't descending as deeply. The Atlantic ridge is building. Sea surface temperatures are rising. The easterlies are strong. The familiar pattern is returning.

NOAA releases their 2011 outlook today...or well in 30 minutes it will be the 19th. Hopefully we don't get a huge range again like last year.

Doing search thru the net,I saw this UKMET hurricane forecast for the North Atlantic they released today. They round to 13 the number of named storms.
