The situation has not changed at all, I think its just the length of time now, radiation is still being released in to the atmosphere with no end in site. Unlike Chernobyl the facility at Fukushima is demolished. Reactor number 3 looks like a pile of metal in photos. Repairing this is going to be a long undertaking,

so to answer that question, ya I think now there finally being honest with not just everyone, but themselves too.

Just had another 6.3 earthquake. Now I didnt follow the Chili earthquake as much as to the Japan one. Only because I am in Okinawa. However did Chili have this many after shocks and of this magnitude. I mean look how many 6+ earthquakes the been having a day these arnt no little ones. and then they say this could last into 2012.

Aftershocks continued for a couple of months in Chile. They can go on for years; there was an aftershock in 2007 of the 2004 Boxing Day quake.

I have been following this, especially with my brother living near Chiba. One thing that suprises is the amount of 4.0+ tremors since the big earthquake. Is this normal, and especially they are still getting some big ones in the 6 or 7+ region

Japan Mulls to Move Capital over Disaster Worries

As powerful earthquakes continue to jolt Japan and radiation levels near Tokyo are rising, the Asian country's authorities are considering moving the capital to another city.

The most probable location for a new capital are Osaka and Nagoya, according to ITAR-TASS. Both cities are located near international airports.

The main conditions the new capital has to provide are a population over 50 000 and a sufficient capacity to accommodate the parliament, the government, the Emperor's residency and the foreign diplomatic missions.

According to experts, should a 7.2 magnitude earthquake shake Tokyo, the casualties will be around 11 000, some 210 000 will be injured and the material damage will be worth about USD 1 B

Wouldn't be the first time they moved the capital, it actually used to be in Kamakura. But was moved up to Tokyo because of the Wan. Witch gets me to my point this idea seem far fetched, also if you move the government of a country it is not like it would decrease causalities, that would be like moving the capital building from DC to NY and DC gets crushed by a hurricane.. theres still people there!

Any how, point is media likes to jump all over stuff like this.. rumors and here say, but would be interesting if it was true and such a geographical displacement took place due to the ever increasing amount of quakes here. Thanks for posting it GCANE, quite interesting. And the statistics about a 7.2 directly under tokyo, if it was shallow enough is scary.

Actually got Rain showers and TS in the area right now, expecting that to taper off by noon today, but your right there is a NE wind shift expected tomorrow evening on the 17th with a low moving SE of Honshu, also expecting some precip with that as well.

As far as the radiation it really is nothing to worry about, but you have the people out here with there counters and they will see a slight spike and go insane.. but ya. Likely going to see on here on the evening of the 17th in to the 18th none the less.
