Mayor of Tuscaloosa on The Weather Channel - "Parts of our city have suffered extreme damage, some catastrophic damage. Some areas of our city have been obliterated."

I hope that the other stat from the Super Outbreak in 1974 is not threatened.

That would be the fatalities - 315+.

But a massive mile wide to mile and a half wide tornado producing "obliterating" damage in heavily populated areas for up to 70+ continous miles on the ground.

I shudder to think...

I am really scared to think what has happened. Sometimes things looks so bad but somehow there are no or very few fatalities. We can only hope that is the case today.

Finally can get online. One of the 100 or more tornadoes went right over me while on the road!

My story:

I am on Highway 401 in southern Ontario headed for Michigan. I was armed with a radar on my phone, and saw a line of storms approaching as early as 2:00 pm.

At 2:31 pm, we pulled into a service area to get off the highway to avoid we thought would be a heavy rain threat. A tornado warning was NOT in effect at the time but a severe t-storm warning was.

At 2:36 pm, the rain started. The sky was pitch black.

At 2:41 pm, debris flew around outside. There was no obvious structural damage but many trees and signs blown around. It was rotating like an obvious tornado and it appears a funnel went over the building.

At 2:42 pm, it slowed down but intense rain was still happening. Wind calmed to nothing.

At 2:59 pm, we talked to someone who saw severe damage further up the highway. So it probably just touched down there and continued eastward.

At 3:05 pm, we headed back out after the rain slowed. The damage was very consistent with a tornado, probably EF0 there but at least EF2 farther up.

TN:
TRENTON, DADE COUNTY (WRCB) – Dade County officials say a possible tornado has hit a neighborhood in Trenton.

Officials say there are several people trapped inside collapsed homes behind the First Baptist Church on South Main.

Emergency crews have set up a mass casualty triage at the church.

Unfreaking believable. I mean I have never ever seen anything like this. I watched the TWC with Jeff Morrow from Birmingham. That wedge was so large...man oh man. Debris from Tuscaloosa that blew in the air while the storm was 17 miles away. Unfreaking believable. I am praying for all of those folks tonight.

At least 25 dead in Alabama alone according to CNN. Could be the deadliest since the Super Outbreak.

Insane uncapped STP persists in AL.

This doesn't look to end after sun down.
