I just counted 31 tornado warnings at once...beyond crazy...
I couldn't watch the whole outbreak today but I did see at around 3:00 pm EDT 15 tornado warnings at once on the map so I knew that was a very bad sign and thought this could get ugly quick. Was there this amount of TOR warnings at once straight to now?
CrazyC83, you went chasing today?

CNN should be doing blanket coverage of this massive tornado outbreak, really that segment starting at 8:00 pm was not that great to convey the enormity of the situation. I'd hate to be working at the head office or smaller offices at the NWS in Alabama or Tennessee right now

My posts should NEVER, EVER, EVER be construed as an official forecast as I know virtually nada respecting the finer points of meteorology. Consequently, my posts are obviously NOT endorsed by any professional institution or the good folks at storm2k.org. For official information please refer to the weather gurus at the NHC and NWS.

This is the same storm that hit Tuscaloosa and Birmingham unless I'm mistaken.
If it hasn't lifted up at some point, it has been on the ground for well over 100 miles.

I think most of those were from the tornadoes earlier today.
Last I've heard, only one fatality had been confirmed out of Tuscaloosa and none had been confirmed out of Birmingham.
But an emergency management official on The Weather Channel - unless I misunderstood him - said they had unconfirmed reports of numerous fatalities in the Pleasant Grove area.

No, I was on vacation driving south! About 27% the way to Florida.

I thought so too...then the report came in that spotters were still observing a mile wide tornado on the ground.
How far away from the radar sites is this thing? That may have something to do with it along with the rolling terrain of NE Alabama and NW Georgia.
