Convection ESE of Wilmington, NC (Is invest 93L)

#1 Postby Dean4Storms » Tue May 31, 2011 3:45 pm

I cannot find anything on a weather map on this feature. Does anyone have a clue to this rotating ball of convection seen here near 33N 74W?

I've been watching that all morning. Probably won't be there tomorrow but who knows.

Left over long lasting MCS that moved off the Coast from the Upper Mid West.

It appears to be rotating, don't know if at the surface. But this is over the Gulf Stream and upper level winds are conducive. May need monitoring for north Florida/GA area!

This features has been seen by a couple of the models over the last few days. Its an upper level trough that will be sliding to the south of the large ridge. It will be crossing north/central Florida tomorrow where it might increase pops by 10-20%.

This buoy did show some interesting wind shifts today as it passed. Pressures dropped but not that much. Still needs to be monitored!

It is moving SW into warmer Gulf Stream waters.

Very interesting little system, but vorticity seems to be more in the mid levels than anything else, living little surface eddies behind as it continues to rotate SW around the stout ridge heat of fire in the eastern US.

A very interesting ball of convection that just caught my eye. It has some outflow as the MCS moves SW.

I certainly hope you are right. We need rain so badly all over the state for that matter. It is a very unique little feature for sure. Looking at the satellite imagery, there appears to be some rotation at least in the mid-levels. If the convection continues to fire up and persist for the next day or two, then I would say this feature would bear watching for sure.

This was a MCS that moved off the Southern New England coast Sunday morning. Very interesting to see it flare up like that in the Gulf Stream. Hoping for an active season.

Also, this feature is moving at a pretty good clip to the southwest around the periphery of the huge ridge of High Pressure which is parked over the Eastern U.S. Even if this feature tried to organize into something, I don't think that time is on its side. Of course, we all will watch to see what happens.
