This thread should be more about why there are such few members and guests on when the season just started (compared to usual that this). It's expected to be a very active hurricane season and just some are coming on. The turnout for the North Atlantic Hurricane Numbers Poll was near record low (110) compared to last year's record high (194). WTH?
The reason could be is there hasn't been any major hurricane landfalls on the US mainland since Wilma of 2005 which is an extremely long time. I'd hate to see that be the case but it seems like that's it. I remember when I first joined in early 2006 that amount of board activity at the start of that season was insane, for the first Invest which became TS Alberto there was 200+ pages of discussion overall.

There is some truth to that. 2004-2006 was probably our most active period here and also throw in the fact that the US has had minimal impacts period since 2008 and you get some of the reasons for less activity. However, if this season turns out the way many think it will with a return to more US landfalls I think the forum will definitely ramp up like old times.

Disclaimer: 50% of the time I have no clue of what I am talking about. Chances are I am taking a less than educated guess that sounds good because 10 years ago I stole Mike Watkins book 'The Hurricane and its Impact'. For official information please direct yourself to the NHC and their cadre of weather geniuses.
