I am heading to DC for Memorial Day weekend and have a couple of days to do some traveling on the way back. I will be traveling by myself and wondered what places would be must see between DC and Missouri. I am not opposed to heading via a north or south route of there. Thanks!

I know that there are lots to see between DC and Missouri. I've personally never travelled between those two points in a car. If you're a Civil War buff, there's lots of places like Fredericksburg, Manassas, Wilderness in VA, Gettysburg in PA if you want to go north before heading west, Antietam in MD and yes, Harper's Ferry in WV: http://www.nps.gov/hps/abpp/battles/bystate.htm#va

I've heard that the Skyline Drive is gorgeous and worth the trip.
