SG said she should have power back sometime tonight. Around 1000 out of electric so far.

Picked up just a trace of rain today. These last 2 days have reminded me of yesteryear, hot days, afternoon thunderstorms followed by cooler cloudy evenings. What I would give to have this pattern back!

Wow! Funny how I wasn't even expecting anything until shortly before it happened. It got kinda wild here! I was typing a message on here when it went out. It got really dark and very windy then started POURING. Lots of thunder and lightning with very heavy rain! And I got hail - for quite a while. It started hailing for a bit, then stopped briefly. Then started again even harder and the rain was coming down sideways. Lots of limbs and palm tree branches, etc scattered about.
And standing water! Yes, standing water. I know... forgot what that even looked like.
There was a lot of CG but the craziest thing was when I got very close CG - it was very bright with simultaneous thunder, shaking the house and lights came on in the house. How is that even possible? It was very freaky!
Anyway, most of the area seems to still be without power with a new estimated time of midnight. And for those who have it, no internet. At least here. CMA Communications down.

I got several inches of much-needed rain and hope the rest of you get some too!

I did make a report for NWS.

Crazy day!

Glad you got a soaking SG! We officially received about a quarter of an inch of rain but some areas got much more than that. I was in a severe storm with hail late this afternoon near Broussard, can't remember the last time I saw hail around here! Hopefully today's storms will help transition us into a more typical summer pattern with daily storms. While we didn't get the soaking we needed in the city and at my house, it is a start and I'll take it. Crazy that .25" of rain is the our "largest" rainfall since May 3rd! Oh and they raised our chance of rain to 40% for tomorrow, haven't seen that in a while either!

New estimate for power restoration in this area is 7am. They just keep extending it. Nobody in my sub-division / community has been restored. Per Entergy site, lines are down and transformers failed.

Btw, it looks like I got 3.75"

Power was restored to my area about 9am, but Internet is still down. There were still nearly 2500 outages at midnight, most in Jefferson and Hardin counties. Wow. I think it's down to a few hundred now. We just asked for rain. lol

Not sure why my posts are double posting with Tapatalk, but someone deleted BOTH of one of my posts.

From HGX...stole it from Srain...:)

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
1117 AM CDT TUE JUN 7 2011

.DISCUSSION...
A STRONG SEABREEZE IS ALREADY MOVING ONTO THE UPPER TX COAST THIS
MORNING RESULTING IN A BAND OF HEAVY SHOWERS/T-STORMS WHICH IS
STEADILY MOVING INLAND. AREAS SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 10 WHICH HAVE
LARGELY MISSED OUT ON THE RAIN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS WILL
BENEFIT FROM THIS ACTIVITY. MORNING ANALYSIS SHOWS SOME
SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE ATMOSPHERE COMPARED TO YESTERDAY AT
THIS TIME. SFC DEWPOINTS ARE RUNNING MUCH HIGHER (CURRENTLY IN THE
LOWER 70S). 12Z LCH SOUNDING SHOWS NO CAPPING AND A LOT MORE
SATURATION IN THE LOW TO MID LEVELS. PWS RANGE FROM 1.6-1.8 INCHES
NEAR THE COAST TO 1.3-1.5 INCHES NRN ZONES. THE SEABREEZE SHOULD
REMAIN A FOCUS FOR CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT AS IT SPREADS INLAND.
HAVE DECIDED TO UP POPS TO 30 PCT FOR THE SRN 2/3 OF THE AREA THIS
AFTN. GIVEN THE HIGHER SFC DEWPOINTS AND GREATER SATURATION IN THE
MID LEVELS...THE OVERALL RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER WILL BE MUCH
LOWER THAN THE LAST TWO DAYS. STILL...AN ISOLATED DOWNBURST OR
FUNNEL CLOUDS WILL BE POSSIBLE. TEMPERATURES ARE RUNNING 4 TO 6
DEGREES LOWER THAN AT THIS TIME YESTERDAY. MAX TEMPS SHOULD BE
CONSIDERABLY LOWER THAN YESTERDAY ESPECIALLY OVER THE SRN
HALF...BUT COULD STILL TOUCH RECORDS AT EACH LOCATION PRIOR TO THE
ARRIVAL OF THE SEABREEZE.

TODAY`S HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS:
COLLEGE STATION: 100/1948
HOUSTON (IAH): 99/1903
HOUSTON (HOU): 98/1977
GALVESTON: 91/2008

It could have been two of us doing it at once. I was deleting your doubles, but there were still 1 post of each left when I did it.

I'll be there. I think IH-10 would be a proper Venue! We had some showers around us yesterday but nothing to record in the rain guage.

Yep finally a good soaking for much of the city and it was so badly needed! KATC reporting possible tornado touch down near Indian Bayou as well. I had a feeling we had a better shot at rain today by how early the clouds formed and the fact that there were showers along the coast as well. When you see this in the summer in the mornings around here you know there will be storms around later. Keep it coming!

David, did you ever get any rain from any of these storms?

And I finally got my internet back late yesterday!! :D Apparently, that CG lightning I mentioned that was so close (extremely bright and simultaneous thunder) that oddly turned lights ON in my house got that room, outlet? and fried my modem. It was the only thing in that room not on a surge protector, but I'm not sure if it was just that one outlet affected or what. They had to repair the lines or whatever where the most people were affected, then start addressing the individual issues. That's why my neighbors had cable/internet well before I did.
