Some thoughts about hurricanes

#1 Postby arkestra » Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:31 am

It's been years I'm tracking hurricanes. And somehow I don't feel comfortable with it. I believe most of us here on the board are watching every single tropical wave, making scenarios, waiting for the first storm form and the latest to dissipate, waiting for special advisories, etc. A hurricane is a story on its own, and we're hooked on it. I like to watch these beautiful monsters come alive. But they are monsters. They do not intend to take lives - they don't have neurones! - but they do. They hit hard. Most times they're just fishes. Sometimes they land. To me, hurricanes should be like Ioke.

Why are you tracking hurricanes? To save your life and belongings? Because you admire them? A mix of both?

nb: I'm not a native English speaker, I hope I didn't hurt anybody. If so, it wasn't my intention.

I watch mostly Atlantic hurricanes, because they are the most in the news. The storms are so large that they have a mass of thousands of tons. As these huge globs of water vapor slide across the frictionless surface of the oceans they sometimes cross the path of the New Moon with varying results. I am always improving my ability to time this collision and record the results.

I track the for a scientific purpose, I mean, I'm not a met but I love all of the sciences of nature and I really like to follow the development of weather systems, how they interact with their environment, with the seas, the land, other systems, etc. Sometimes I track them for both reasons when they threat or affect Central America.
