I think that is overkill. I have a problem mandating businesses to set aside that much space (which would be required to be empty) on the grounds that an extremely rare phenomenon occurs. Risk vs cost.

I didn't say mandate, just said that perhaps they should look into it...especially in tornado prone areas...and they don't have to leave it completely empty...the weather offices use their shelters as the break rooms for the employees.

Lets focus on trailer parks first. Thats where most of the preventable deaths are.

Agreed, although I don't think any large trailer parks have been hit this year? Most of the mobile home fatalities were in rural areas.

and the weather offices have a maximum of 20 or so people in them. Wal-mart typically has hundreds.

I know this is la-la land thinking, but how about the public be responsible enough to not go out when there are warnings in effect? How about the public being more aware of the weather in general? The more I think about it the more I am convinced that there isn't a lot the authorities can do to change things in spite of what some well meaning very knowledgeable weather authorities are saying. I've come to this conclusion from reading different sources, many who are mets commenting on this. Doomsday thinking? No, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Warning margins have increased substantially, especially in the last 5 years or so, yet people still are caught out in the storms. Of course there are some tornadoes that it doesn't matter where you are when safety is concerned, but those are not common. We know that EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION, is the part of the answer, but implementation after education is the final answer and that is completely up to those we are trying to educate. JMHO

What do you think?

***//www.facebook.com/.......

I think it would be better if you posted a valid news link instead of a gab/gossip site link.

I don't know what your problem is with the link. It goes directly to a legitimate news source if you bother to use the entire link, which you conveniently decided not to post. James Spann was instrumental in saving hundreds if not thousands of lives with his reporting during the April 27 outbreak and for you to denigrate the link is tantamount to saying he isn't a legitimate meteorologist which couldn't be further from the truth as he is very respected in the weather community and the community at large.
