An interesting week

So we left record highs in Texas last Friday to take a camping trip in the La Plata mountains in SW Colorado. What a surprise we had Sunday evening on into Monday morning to find snow falling from the sky. We were camped out a little above 10,000 feet. We ended up getting about 3 inches of snow, but I think areas to our north likely got a lot more. The mountains near Moab, Utah (The Uinta-La Sals?) about 100 miles to our northwest looked completely covered with snow when we went down to Cortez, CO for some groceries on Monday. I'm fairly curious how much they got along with areas to our north around Silverton And Telluride. Regrettably all the new snow in the La Platas was melted by the time we got back a little after 1pm.

Yeah. I am very familiar with the area as I used to live up there and I've gotten snowed on in June-August before up there. I had been checking some of the models though leading up to my departure for the trip and none of the models or forecasts I had been eyeballing hinted at snow so it was a complete unexpected surprise. We were driving around in high country and I noticed the clouds piling up low which generally hints at snow and then checked the NWS from Grand Junction to see a Winter Weather Advisory.
