Hurricane Audrey

Today is the 54th anniversary of Hurricane Audrey - I always take note of this date as I lived through it and lost my sister to the storm. We lost our family home and my grandparents home. It was the most frightening experience of my life. It seems like only yesterday instead of 54 years ago. The year was 1957 and since then, we never take the Gulf for granted and never turn our back to it. Always remember~
Anyone else here remember Audrey?

Being from Port Arthur I remember Audrey well. It makes me sad just thinking about it.

An interesting re-analysis of the storm is included in the publication, Storm Tides in 12 Tropical Cyclones. See pages 68-75 for a somewhat surprising conclusion regarding Audrey and its wind speeds, storm surge, and size of wind field. Here's the link:
