Not really all that surprising given the strength of the deep convection that is just to the south of Don's center.

B: Not going to give much rain to Texas outside of the showers.

Still a cool system even if it didn't live upto some of the hype...

System in the Gulf will be upgraded to TS "Don". Don is packing 40 mph winds with motion to the WNW about 12 mph. Don could become a CAT 1 hurricane before landfall which will likely be near Brownsville Friday evening.

I had to retrieve this post from Wednesday afternoon. I'll admit I thought Bostwick's call was going to be wrong. He may have been off a bit on intensity but good call on landfall. Kudos!

Just curious - have there been any even semi-recent tropical systems landfalling in areas around the GOM where extreme drought conditions were in place?

Looks to be about 100 miles NE of Brownsville and moving WNW - perhaps a landfall between Corpus Christi and Brownsville...

Well Hermine and Bonnie last year, but I dont think Florida nor Texas were in a drought at the time. I dont know where drought record are either.

Looks like good rains for S.Texas, the area that seems to miss out is Central Texas from the looks of things given the lack of convection coming in around the system.

Yeah, and some sort of surface circulation or eddy close to Brownsville well SW of the main center. What a mess. Too bad it's tilted in completely the wrong direction.

Wow...I think Houston, Beaumont has had the most rain out of this system! Mexico seems to get the remaining thats offshore later tonight. So much for the Texas drought-busting Don!

Houston had some moderate rain around 9-10 this morning. Its all been falling east of us towards you Mikey. There is a few showers approaching south Houston right now. Im sure it will just get dark and thunder without dropping any rain. That seems to be the trend where I live!

Anyone have any idea what the circulation is to the SW of the official center? It is showing up quite well to on radar, and it looks better than the NHC center from the last recon pass. It had a special marine warning on it a little while ago.
