Here is a twitter from Jim Cantore:

Re: ATL: DON - Tropical Storm - Discussion
This looks like exactly what happened a couple of years ago when some tropical cyclone made landfall in the persian gulf and just evaporated because of dry air. Do you guys think that was the same case with Don

Just got back on the computer, wow! I don't know if I have ever seen a tropical system make landfall and go poof!!! Simply amazing, maybe some of its energy will help fire of some storms during the day tomorrow.

I just pulled up the Brownfield radar and was amazed there wasnt any rain. I called my wife over to look at it. That was amazing. I have never seen anything like that. That just shows you just how dry we are here in Texas.

Looks like Corpus Christi turned the sensitive mode of the radar on and I can pick out the weak center about to move onshore: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid= ... 1&loop=yes
I honestly feel bad for those in Texas that were hoping for some much needed rainfall. Hopefully there's an overnight burst of rainfall but I'm not so sure after seeing the dry air literally eat this storm

I don't think so.

With that dry air, even a Katrina-sized storm would be sucked dry overnight probably...

Or even a Tip-sized storm.
