I keep waking up expecting to see some sudden turn/twist/veering off...nothing. We are planning to batten down the patio stuff today; ratcheting cargo straps worked great for songda, let's hope they do the same here

Hey, I'm new here. We're going to go out this morning and replace the items we used during Songda, just some water and food and batteries. I'm hoping it's not so bad, I just did our freezer cooking and I'll be so bummed if all of that food goes bad!

Try Foster for water...my husband JUST walked in the door. He said they were out of bread, but they still had plenty of water.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. Can't you guys just go to 711 and stock up or are you restricted to getting supplies on base?

After I said this typhoon had a stupid name it bombed the last time...I'll try not to say that again -- (But I'll be thinking it!) :ggreen: I'm off to bed - had a VERY long day today, but will be interested to see what happens tomorrow. I worry that if this typhoon doesn't hit us people around here are going to swear off weather forecasts in the future (aka. little boy who cried wolf). For once, people are taking it seriously.

Gotta love Family Mart! My shop of choice when stocking up on last minute supplies to last me 3 days in Japan or Taiwan. Normally it's the instant noodles which empty the shelves first but luckily for me I don't like them.

Canned coffee, potato crisps and cheese snacks are my choice for a healthy and balanced typhoon diet :P

Yes, we can stock up anywhere - but with the exchange rate, it's best to shop on base where prices are "normal" and in USD, not yen. We all get paid in dollars, so when you spend yen on something, it's "paying through the nose" -- (ok, we also get a cost-of-living adjustment in our pay, but it still hurts to pay $7/gallon for gas when on base it's $3.77) -- so no, you're not STUCK if the base is out - but you will pay an awful lot more -- hence why everyone storms the commissary and BX/PX first... :)

Haha I gotcha. Especially with the exchange rate right now. Thanks for the insight!

So when are you getting here, James? Let us know, as always, if you need any help with anything. You have friends in Okinawa! :D

P.S. Typhoon food of choice? Orion, Orion, and more Orion...

Great beer...One of the few beers I like in the can as well as draft. Love Guinness, but it's just not the same if it's not draft...and poured by a skilled bartender who knows how to pour one. :D

Winds here seem to be increasing. Beautiful, sunny day out there, but windy as all hell. Looking good on radar!

What makes me nervous if somehow this things turns away from us and the crowd goes and yet again it turns and stop preparing for them..because I have heard it a few times today.."Oh, I haven't dont a thing..it will miss like all the others"
