Gee, only 102.4f today. Feels like temps reached warning criteria again today with values up to 110f in the metro area and 116f at College Station, TX. So far the week is living up to its' previous advertisement.

Oh yeah it was brutal here in College Station today. I went out to the driving range at 7pm and was sweating a lot as it was still over 100 degrees. I'm so tired of this heat! Can we please cool down to the 90's soon? :(

The City of Houston has activated its Heat Emergency Plan. Houstonians without access to air conditioning can seek shelter during business hours at city multi-service centers, libraries or recreation centers. Call 311 to ask for the nearest open city facility.
Metro can provide transportation to the Central Library at 500 McKinney. Arrangements for transportation to the library can be made by calling 311.

It is currently 92f here at the house. We are looking at 102f or higher for the real temp today and around 110f for the feels like.
Even upper 90s is starting to sound good these days. I know the official count of days above 100f is "only" 13 or so. Here at the house even though I haven't kept an official count our number at or above 100f for a high has been at least 35 or more since this heat started. I know we have have had only a couple of days below 95f for a high since June 1 and I think we had one below 90F. :double: :double:

Rgv20 actually posted that yesterday in the C/SC TX (and N TX because we've invaded it) Thread, thanks to him for digging it up and saving it to a static image. :D It's yesterday's 12Z GFS but I doubt anything's changed. :x

So frustrating to see rain everywhere but Texas....

I am getting ready for the cold front next week. Supposed to get down to 99! That rainfall map is unreal but tells the story of this year.

Just ran my rainfall totals for the year. We've had a whopping 8.23" this year and half of that was in January. June was 1.57" and July was 0.85".
As I said the other day the heat is on even here in SE TX. I hope we don't get the temps they're having in N TX along with our humidity. :double:  High at the house today was 104.5f with the nearest weatherbug site at 104f. Tomorrow is supposed to be our hottest day this week. We're really looking forward to that!! NOT!!! Like flyinman I can't wait for that cold front over the weekend!! :cheesy: :cold:

This weather is just amazing. I guess the positive side is I am hopefully young enough to be able to tell me grandkids the event(s) that bring us back to normal..IF this ever happens.

Really it seems since 1999-2000 the weather patterns have been abnormal. Even before then, I was in College Station and we had several summers of intense heat and little rain. While, we have accumulated somewhat normal rainfall in the past 10 years it has been at odd times of the year or a large amount at once, thus in my opinion the annual rainfall becomes a lopsided figure.. I cannot remember, other than last July, a summer where seabreeze showers were everyday and widely scattered giving us a consistent reading in the rain guage.

I am praying for relief the first week of September. Larry Cosgrove thinks that in his latest thinking:

My thinking is, based on the pulsation we see developing into the Midwest and Great Lakes, that we get a meaningful cool intrusion around September 5.

It would be wonderful if he is right!! Yesterday was basically a repeat of the day before with both the weatherbug and my home thermometer making 104f. I'm thinking today will be even hotter since we are already to 99f. We'll see in about two hours.

Tweet from ERCOT:

ERCOT AT EEA 1 - RESERVES BELOW 2300 MW. NO ROTATING OUTAGES AT THIS TIME.

I guess this is a good thing, so far.

The signs along I-10 and various highways that say "Hurricane Season is here. Be prepared." have been replaced with "Conserve Water. Extreme Drought Conditions."

And there's not even a slight chance of rain in the NWS 7 day forecast!

This drought is just as bad as a hurricane. Droughts and heat waves are the costliest and deadliest disasters in America.

1980-2010
1.) Hurricane Katrina $133.8 billion 1,833 Killed
2.) 1988 Drought and Heat Wave $71.2 billion ~10,000 Killed
3.) 1980 Drought and Heat Wave $55.4 billion ~7,500 Killed
4.) Hurricane Andrew $40 billion 61 killed
5.) 1993 Midwest Flood $30.2 billion 48 killed
6.) Hurricane Ike $27 billion 112 killed
7.) Hurricane Rita $17.1 billion 120 killed
7.) Hurricane Wilma $17.1 billion 35 killed
8.) Hurricane Charley $16.5 billion 35 killed
9.) Hurricane Ivan $15.4 billion 57 killed
10.) Hurricane Hugo $15.3 billion 86 killed

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/img/reports/bi ... rs2010.pdf

From the link, most of the billion dollar disasters from 1980-2010 are droughts. The drought is going to really bite us in the form of higher food prices, which comes at a bad time with the economy in a weak state.

Gee, only 102.6f here at the house Saturday. The cold front coming in(LOL) is supposed to take us down to a cool 99f one day this week.

I saw those signs north and southbound from Austin to Dallas on I-35 this weekend. I also saw an abnormally large number of cars broken down on the shoulder. A bunch with flats/blowouts dunno what happened to the rest. Newish vehicles for the most part, not just struggle buggies.

Well now the local ocm's have backed off on that "cold front" this week with 7 day forecasts showing 100f or above through next Saturday with a cool 99f for Sunday. Today at the house was 103.3 which was the high at the nearest weatherbug site also. Today was the 7th day in a row officially also that the temp was 100f or more.

It's looking like we are going to beat all of these if the predictions for 100f or above for at least the next 5 days are correct. Local weatherbug site hit 101f and here at the house we hit 101.8f. Look out 1980! Here we come!! :onfire: :firedevil: :Bcool:
