.DISCUSSION...
A DIAL IN TO THE IAH ASOS INDICATES THAT THE TEMPERATURE HIT 100
DEGREES AGAIN TODAY...KEEPING HOUSTON`S ONGOING STREAK OF 100
DEGREE DAYS GOING AT 13 DAYS IN A ROW. THIS IS ALSO THE 24TH DAY
THIS SEASON OF 100 DEGREE TEMPERATURES IN HOUSTON...TYING WITH
1998 FOR THE SECOND HIGHEST TOTAL FOR AN ENTIRE SUMMER.

While we are at it, let us just break all the records...If the Astros can do it, so can Mother Nature....ugghhh

AS FOR THE RECORDS...THERE`S A GOOD CHANCE THAT HOUSTON`S
CONSECUTIVE DAY 100-DEGREE RECORD WILL BE TIED OR BROKEN IN THE
NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. EVEN IF THIS RECORD IS NOT BROKEN...OTHER
RECORDS ARE THREATENED INCLUDING THE MOST 100-DEGREE DAYS IN
AUGUST (14 DAYS IN 1993)...MOST 100-DEGREE DAYS IN A MONTH (18
DAYS IN JULY 1980)...AND MOST 100-DEGREE DAYS FOR AN ENTIRE SUMMER
(32 DAYS IN 1980).

It's getting to the point where my husband keeps telling me we need to look for a new place to live! OUr poor air conditioner just cannot keep up! It struggles to keep 80 degrees upstairs during the day. Tired of this already!

you might need your a/c and ductwork checked out ... and your insulation.

Our a/c (new last year) could be set at arctic temp (really 70-72) and keep the house that temp all day even if it's 110 outside. Maybe colder.

We don't run it that cold because we're trying to do our part to keep from having those pesky rolling blackouts.

Do you have one a/c unit for a 2 story? Without separate controls and zoned heat/ac it's hard to cool the 2nd story. I was living at home in 1980 in Dallas and my bedroom was on the 2nd floor of a drafty duplex. In summer it ran about 10 degrees cooler than outside, in winter 10 degrees warmer than outside...

Wow! The big rain missed me. Rained all around the house within a few miles in all directions. Got a lot of wind and thunder but only a light rain shower.

I got 1 1/2 inches of rain this afternoon! Thunder and lightning too! I was one of the lucky ones who got a strong, slow-moving thunderstorm. The grass and trees are smiling!

Mother Nature,

Please take Summer away. The birds have left. The trees are dead and the people are tired. Make Fall the greatest ever. The birds will come back, the water will return and the people will do a happy dance until dawn's early light.

Thank You

Not a drop here at the house. Some good threats and more lying radar, but nary a spit.
Temp at the weatherbug site was 102f, 100.8 here at the house and 100f was the official today. I'm not sure I want to know what it would have gotten to if the clouds and rains(in some areas)hadn't moved in. From here on out I foresee record after record falling unless there is a huge pattern change.

2011 SE TX/SW LA Weather:This IS ridiculous!

2011 SE TX/SW LA Weather: Welcome to Hades. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/14/opinion/sunday/as-texas-dries-out-life-falters-and-fades.html

I know not my business to label your thread but ....... I've felt bad when we've been in bad drought yours however takes it to a whole new level that is unknown to most North Americans.

(and I too believe it will end and very, very, very soon is my fervent wish).

Latest from Jeff:
The HEAT Goes On‏

Before the clouds and storms gave a few a welcomed drink on Sunday, BUSH IAH reached 100 degrees for the 14th straight day which tied the record from 1980 for the most consecutive 100 degree days. Today we shall break the record…and then blow it out of the water the rest of this week!

Upper ridge which gave enough ground on Sunday to allow scattered thunderstorms to develop, will build back over the region through this week resulting in highs moving back into the low to mid 100’s and little chance of rainfall. Will likely see highs peak in the Tuesday-Wednesday time period around 102-104 and then settle in the 100-102 range for the rest of the week.

Heat advisory remains in effect along the coast and 2nd inland tier counties, and will likely need to be expanded northward during this week to include more of the area as afternoon heat index values remain greater than 105.

End of the Week:

Upper ridge looks to flatten some by the end of the week allowing a slightly deeper southeasterly flow to develop off the Gulf of Mexico. This may help cool the highs below 100 by Saturday ending our streak of 100 degree days. Interestingly, with the dry ground we have been reaching 100 by 1-2 pm in the afternoon, typically it is closer to 4-5pm. Additionally, the strong tropical wave east of the Windward Island this morning is shown by model guidance to be somewhere in the region of the western Caribbean Sea by late this week. Guidance was previously aggressive with this wave and its development, but has since backed away to a more weaker solution. For now will not show any impacts from this feature, but fell rain chances may increase by Saturday as high pressure aloft weakens and moisture deepens over the area.

Larry Cosgrove is still thinking September 4-5 for our cooling off. He did say the models were hinting earlier, but he will go conservative and stick with September 4-5. There is good news coming folks. He also stated that it might be a shade below climo and we WOULD notice a difference. Woo hoo....

Climo for those days are:

High 92 Low 73

Fun Times For August....We are a whopping almost 3 degrees above the record for August. 3 DEGREES....sheesh..

CLIMATE...
IAH HAS NOW GONE 14 STRAIGHT DAYS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AT OR ABOVE
100 DEGREES WHICH TIES THE ALL TIME RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE 100-DEGREE
DAYS SET IN JULY 1980. AUGUST`S AVERAGE TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE 14TH
IS 90.6 DEGREES WHICH IS 5.6 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. IAH IS STILL ON
TRACK TO BREAK THE RECORD FOR THE HOTTEST AUGUST EVER - 87.7 DEGREES
SET IN 2010. THE AIRPORT RECEIVED ITS FIRST MEASURABLE RAINFALL OF
THE MONTH YESTERDAY - 0.07 INCHES. AUGUST 2011 WILL NOT GO DOWN AS
THE DRIEST AUGUST ON RECORD - A TRACE OF RAIN FELL IN 1927. 42

DISCUSSION...
TEMPERATURES HAVE ALREADY REACHED 100 DEGREES AT COLLEGE
STATION...CONROE...TOMBALL...AND SUGAR LAND...BUT ONLY 99 DEGREES
SO FAR AT IAH. WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE IF THE MERCURY CAN
CLIMB ANOTHER DEGREE THIS AFTERNOON AND BREAK THE RECORDS FOR
CONSECUTIVE 100 DEGREE DAYS AND 100 DEGREE DAYS FOR AUGUST WHICH
WERE TIED IN HOUSTON YESTERDAY.

Edit...We hit 100 in the 3 o'clock hour

Ding, ding, ding is right!!! UGH!! Do we always have to win? 103.3f here at the house, 102f at the weatherbug site, and 100f for the official. I am not going to be at all surprised if we break the most number of 100f+ days in a row. Only six days to go and the predicted temps continue to be at or above 100f though that time frame. Heck we can't even talk about "from the frying pan into the fire" anymore around here. We are the fire. Oh and we have had no rain at the house in 20 days(none in August so far)and the City of Houston went to level 2 of water restrictions, which specifies when you can water. Some in the metro area are in worse shape than COH with water restrictions, having been forced to close community pools due to the lack of water.
