BZSTORM is good to hear and read in the news that no big damages occurred in Belize. And to the friends in the islands stay safe and hopefully everything's going to be OK after the storm.

I could come back now as power came back, but I will go offline as the bulk of Irene comes soon and they are going to turn off the power by sections in all of Puerto Rico. I am going to be hunkerdown in my house that is secured.I will have a report as soon I can be online again after the storm passes.

Pressure is down to 994 so its almost a hurricane even though it doesn't have a clear eye. Imagine the worst problem besides flooding is power outages. Don't forget to freeze some gallon jugs of water in case the power is off for a few days. They will keep your fridge cold and give you something cold to drink till the AC comes back on.

- BLOWING!!!

Well, just hung up with the husband and he is doing fine. We still have dish network, cell fone and WAPA! WOW! I am not sure about the internet though since he shut his computer down when the first power surge came thru at about 2pm. WAPA has been on the majority of the day. He said it has gone out about 3 times, but came back on within minutes.

I told him according to all of the maps he should be inthe thick of things right about now. He said yes, the winds are there and are blowing out of the east at about 35 - 40 with higher gusts coming through. He said not much rain all day until when I called and it just started dumping buckets outside and blowing into the hurricane shutters. Thank gosh he put those up, he did that at about 5pm when I told him he is going to be in for a rough few hours and he was thankful for putting them up he said or we would have had water in the house. At about 6pm he saw a few kite surfers out in front of the Divi taking advantage of the wind. Yikes, that is kind of scary to be out in that kind of weather.

Well, so far so good on the East End. 1 kitty cat stayed on the balcony to ride out the storm, smart kitty! Hubby felt sorry for him a nd gave him a can of WET cat food. Hoping the rest of our feral cat colony is hunkered down for the night somewhere safe.

Stay Safe everyone. I apologize for not being on island to provide pictures or video. Only word of mouth this time.

expat2carib wrote:I had some serious pounding this morning. The wind gusts were violent. The lines were like elastics and the gusts were pounding my bow sidewards into the dock (even that I'm in a spiderweb of lines). Thanks god for fenders.I managed to line up in a secure way now. I must admit I met my cousin called fear.

This was the northern part. What's the prognosis for the rest? When will it have passed?

Johannes, good to hear you got through the worst of Irene. I'm amazed you stayed on the boat though - you may have met fear but you're braver than me to do that! But, I'm beginning to wonder if you are drawn to these storms - given you were in St Lucia for Tomas too. Take care and now this one has passed be ready for the next, we've a few months to go yet. See you sometime I'm sure.

Just bumping this over from the main thread, from Cycloneye:

cycloneye wrote:Is a surprise that power came back to my area at this point when many bands are moving thru PR and that is why I am posting this. I see that Irene is organizing and slowing down, and that means more winds and more prolonged rains. I say again after my post earlier that I am safe in my house. Let's see when I come back as the power is restored in the aftermath. Sign off.
