OVER THE WEEKEND...THE UPPER RIDGE NUDGES CLOSER AND BELIEVE IT OR
NOT...EVEN HOTTER TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED. A CONVERGENCE OF DRY
AND SUBSIDENT AIR WILL LEAD TO INTENSE AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES
ON FRIDAY AND AGAIN SATURDAY. THE NAM 12 2 METER TEMPS ARE PROGGED
TO REACH REACH 111 DEGREES ON FRIDAY AT CLL AND 109 AT HOUSTON. THESE
VALUES ARE NEAR THE ALL TIME RECORD HIGH VALUES FOR THESE CITIES.
THE NAM 12 HAS BEEN THE PREFERRED MODEL OF CHOICE WITH REGARD TO
TEMPERATURES. WILL LIKELY EXPAND THE HEAT ADVISORY THIS AFTERNOON
TO ENCOMPASS ALL OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS THROUGH SATURDAY. HEAT INDEX
VALUES MAY ACTUALLY BE LESS THAN THE ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURE
BECAUSE OF THE LOW HUMIDITY LEVELS. ISSUED A PNS EARLIER WITH THE
HIGHEST ALL TIME TEMPERATURES RECORDED FOR OUR FOUR FIRST ORDER
CLIMATE SITES.

Ok, this is gone from crazy to stupid. I mean, with all of the meteorological knowledge on this board, we are not supposed to say stupid, but dadgum. This is just become dang stupid. No end in sight, it is getting hotter, the "cool front" that is coming will make air hotter without the moisture to impede from getting hotter earlier. Are you kidding me?

I live along I-20 near the TX/LA border and got about .5-1" of rain. More amazing was the wind - my guess was 60 MPH because I saw huge branches being snapped from my tree. :D

I'm rooting for y'all today, hopefully this complex grows stronger and holds together through Houston!

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid= ... 1&loop=yes

Nothing too close around here now but the theme the past week or so has been the best chances of rain around here after dark so we'll see.

HALLELUJAH!!!! It is raining!! Started 30 minutes ago and still going. Weather alerts going off, very high winds and heavy rain. Now frequent lighting and street beginning to flood. I also have puddles, yes puddles in the back yard. Sorry for the fragments but I am excited. This is our first substantial rain in over 2 months. I will post my rainfall amount once the rain and lighting stop.

Edited: Received 1.5". Almost as much as I have received all year :D

I'm happy for you! We got a whole 0.03", our first rain this month. Got to watch one heck of a lightning show and winds gusted to 41 mph. My son in Cypress described the wind and rain as "like we got in IKE. He said there were small branches down and they also had some hail and moderate street flooding.
Meanwhile 102f official, 103f at the weatherbug site and 104f here at the house.

Wow, Flyinman... congrats! I got teased. My power flickered on and off several times and I heard thunder. That storm passed west of me. Then I heard thunder again a bit later and that storm went east of me. I was in and out and on the road a lot and it got really dark, a lot of thunder and lightning, and then FINALLY... rain!! It was light, though, and when I got home tonight, my personal rain gauge measured a whopping .04"! Well, it LOOKED like rain falling! :P According to radar estimates, areas north of here got 2-3" - I guess it just fell apart before it got down here. At least I got a bit of a lightning show and the yard and trees got a sip.

Sadly, today was our best shot.

Wow!!! Just wow!! I woke up to a wet substance falling out of the sky this morning!! Where am I? What has happened? :cheesy: Amount so far, including last night's "rain", 0.05". At least the early cloud cover may keep us only in the upper 90's today.

Congratulations. Glad someone in Tx gets some rain. Here in north Austin I could actually smell the rain in the air but never got a drop on the ground.

Yep, received just under .5" this morning making the less than 24hr total almost 2". Yes yesterday the winds were very strong and I am sure we recieved gusts in excess of 50 mph. The Pine trees were bending quite severly and branches were flying out of the Oak trees. I was really concerned we might loose some trees but they did fine. I thought I saw hail as the storm began yesterday evening but it was just huge rain drops. I have not seen drops like that since Ike!

Why God Why? Sigh. Thanks for nothing Irene.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
330 PM CDT SAT AUG 27 2011

.DISCUSSION...
ALL TIME RECORD HIGH OF 109 HAS BEEN TIED AT IAH (PREVIOUSLY SET
ON 9/4/2000) @ 244 PM. TEMP SPIKED THEN WENT BACK DOWN. STILL HAVE
A FEW HOURS TO BREAK THAT. SADLY...DON`T SEE MUCH OF A CHANGE
TOMORROW WITH A REALLY DRY AIRMASS REMAINING IN PLACE. WRF/NAM12
SHOW ABOUT THE SAME READINGS AS TODAY. (GLS MIGHT SEE A SLIGHTLY
EARLIER START W/ SOUTH WINDS THEREFORE LOWER TEMPS). A LIGHT S/SE
FLOW RESUMES AREAWIDE MONDAY ALLOWING TEMPS TO PLUMMET BACK DOWN
TO 100-106.

THERE IS HOPE.

LOW & MID LEVEL RIDGES PUSH EAST OF THE AREA BY MIDWEEK. BOTH
GFS/ECMWF SHOW A SLUG OF DEEP TROPICAL MOISTURE MOVING UP FROM
THE CARIBBEAN AND BAY OF CAMPECHE INTO SE TX - ARRIVING WED NIGHT
AND QUITE POSSIBLY PERSISTING WELL INTO THE WEEKEND. BOTH MODELS
SHOW AN INVERTED TROF OR WEAKNESS IN THE MID LEVELS SITUATED JUST
TO OUR WEST WHICH IS HISTORICALLY A GOOD SIGN FOR SUMMERTIME RAIN.
EXPECT SCT SHRA/TSRA EACH DAY - POSSIBLY EVEN WIDESPREAD AT TIMES
IF THE ECMWF IS ON TARGET WHICH SHOWS SOME SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS
ACROSS THE CWA (SEVERAL INCHES). WILL NUDGE POPS UPWARDS DURING
THE 2ND HALF OF THE WEEK AND SUSPECT THEY MIGHT NEED TO CONTINUE
TO BE BUMPED UP AS FCST CONFIDENCE INCREASES. 47

What's left to say? :uarrow: :uarrow: High of 107.2f at the house, 107f at the weatherbug site. Currently 105.2f at the weatherbug site, 107.1f official, and an almost cool 104.5 here at the house. AND IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE HOTTER TOMORROW?? ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING!!!????

Poor Houston, today was a slap in the face 2011 gave to the Bayou City that it owns the town when it comes to hottest summers on record, back in early August I thought Houston would escape the extreme numbers unlike okc and dallas with it's higher dewpoints generally. Well...I was wrong! Unbelievable...one more week!

It was officially 110 here and supposed to be hotter tomorrow. All time high in Austin is 112. Wonder if that will be broken?
