FABIAN update

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Fri Aug 29, 2003 7:15 am

Fabian strengthen slightly over the tropical Atlantic.

At 5 AM, the center of Tropical Storm Fabian was located near latitude 15.5 north, longitude 42.7 west of about 1245 miles east of the Lesser Antillies.

Fabian is moving to the west at 21 mph and this motion is expected to continue with a decrease in forward speed.

Maximum sustained winds are up to 60 mph with higher gusts. Further strengthening is indicated in the next 24 hours and Fabian could become a hurricane sometime on Saturday. Long range forecasts call for a strong hurricane beyond 72 hours with winds possibly over 100 mph just north of the Lesser Antillies. So the intensity forecast continues to increase.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward 85 miles from the center.

Minimum central pressure is 997 mb, 29.44"

Thanks for the update, Jim. Looks like Fabian will be a hurricane either late tonight or tomorrow AM.

RS - IMO, Fabian will not be a fish storm. All east coast residents will need to keep an eye on the track of Fabian next week.

Agree John. I was strongly reccommending since late last night that east coast resident would need to watch this early next week for potential landfall later in the week. This could become a strong hurricane!!!

I don't think this is gonna be a fish rainstorm. It'll be powerful most likely and we have land areas threatened also!!! So we have to watch this carefully.
