I have to admit, I thought the media hype was a little much for a CAT 1 storm, however this looks to be tightening up at landfall, at least it looks that way to me. I bet this does quite a bit of damage up the eastern seaboard. I really think the Gulf Coast is way better prepared (now) for something like this, but up there I would expect long power outages. I hope everyone is prepared.

Cedar island is extreme eastern carteret county. Where you get on the ferry to go to obx. Instrument is located at ferry terminal so that was unobstructed winds off of pamlicco sound.

That Ustream footage that guy got was better when he was moving around after the winds, there was never real strong winds but did show what appeared to be a decent bit of surge afterwards.

Looks like he's decided to get a better handle on the surge from a fixed position before he risks driving back into the flooded streets he visited earlier. - where, as you say, he had a better 3g connection.. He seems to have mapped out the local elevation beforehand as he was parked at a higher spot overnight.
