Hurricane Fabian is the 3rd hurricane of the 2003 Atlantic Hurricane Season to develop. At 5 PM the center of Hurricane Fabian was located near latitude 15.7 north, longitude 45.2 west or about 1075 miles east of the Lesser Antillies. Maximum sustained winds are now up to 75 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. Movement is west at 16 mph and this general motion is expected to continue with a gradual decrease in forward speed. Hurricane force winds extend outward 15 miles from the center while tropical storm force winds extend outward 85 miles. Minimum central pressure is 987 mb or 29.15 inches.
Once again at 5 PM, Fabian becomes the third hurricane of the season in the Atlantic basin. Further strengthening is indicated and Fabian has a chane to become the first major hurricane of 2003 within the next 2-3 days as it heads just north of the lesser Antillies. All interests in the northern lesser Antillies as well as the US east coast should continue to keep updated on this system as further strengthening is forecast!!
