Hahaha. Mike Sidel just said on TWC he hopes that the toursists might be able to come back to OBX as soon as tomorrow for tourism sake.

Can you imagine what I64 and tributories look like, with all their trees?

That's right. Like standing in the surf while reporting is a bad example, suggesting "drive on down" is another. Maybe he needs some sleep or...

HurricaneRobert wrote:I wonder why it still has major hurricane-type pressure.

Wind speed is a function of the pressure gradient - the change in pressure over a specific distance - vs. the absolute pressure reading. A tornado with a central pressure 50mb lower than the surrounding atmosphere might produce 200 mph or more winds because the pressure change is over a very short distance. A hurricane like Irene has a pressure of 950mb but only barely hurricane force wind because that pressure change is over a very long distance. In addition, acking an intense core, Irene will weaken more slowly over land.

I'm not so sure Transit will be up and running that soon. Depends on how much water floods the tubes.

You are right of course. It could take a lot longer. I should have said "at the earliest." And it is the south Manhattan subways (where the Stock exchange is) that will flood the worst. And with salt water no less.

Talk about being at the right place at the right time. They got every bit of it on film. Amazing footage of the storm surge.

That's very dangerous thinking. Storm surge is deadly and should not be messed with. People really underestimate a weak hurricane, especially a large one.

Too bad that recon is having trouble transmitting the FL wind data and the pressure. Might have to wait for any VDM or statement from the NHC.
