I also took the plunge (pun not intended) and de-lurked to join the conversation after finding this amazing site when looking for information on Irene and Katia. I am not a forecaster or involved in any scientific profession centering around the climate but I am an avid follower of weather and find this site to be a great place to read and learn from those of you who have such deep expertise. Thank you for all you do to help people stay informed. I grew up in a place where we would be under tornado watches and warnings pretty much all summer and that is where my interest started.

So anyway, just wanted to say hi and thanks for the encouragement to join.
