One mistake in the chart. Should be 69 days above 100, not 65 for 1980

The chart was a comparison up to August 31st, which was when FW made it. There were more 100s in Sept then but just not included in the time period shown. DFW is at 66 with yesterday.

True, my bad

South Texas Storms wrote:What do you mean by that Porta? If this winter's Nina is stronger/weaker what will that mean for next summer?

Generally speaking (and there are a number of other factors to consider too), the stronger the winter Nina, the greater the chances of above normal temps/below normal precip the following summer. Last winter, we had a strong Nina which sometimes bordered on strongest ever. You know what happened this summer as Nina conditions waned but the lag from the winter made its mark.

We'll talk a lot more about this in the winter thread.

To be honest, I would be so much happier with rain than cooler temperatures. But beggars can't be choosers. I guess we should just take what we can get.

That could be my yard...just a different dog! :)

Yesterday the kids were cleaning up after the dogs in the yard and asked if we should just leave it so we could fertilize the dead grass. Creative way to get out of that chore by capitalizing on the fact that our grass needs some serious help!

lol

Seriously, it's so hot the dog poop is mummifying or something. I've been putting it in one part of the yard (not piled up, don't want spontaneous combustion) and I'll gather it just before the garbage man gets here. At least it's not stinky. It's not good for the dead grass either tho. I put it where the grass is gone and it's just dirt. I thought about dumping it down the big cracks in the yard but didn't know how that would work out in the long run.

The temps behind this front are getting a bit lower and lower with each local forecast for the DFW area. Low to mid 80's and lower 60's now. Holy Cow! No rain but this is the next best thing. What a relief! This summer has been absolute torture. I dont care about records that could have been. The best time of the year is slowly approaching with temps to go along with it. Imagine, beer and BBQ on Labor Day with the north wind and a cool pleasant evening as the sun goes down. Just wonderful. I think I will cry. :D

Personally, I don't think this summer has been torture. I like the hot temperatures and everyday has been gorgeous. Paying an extra dollar for a loaf of bread isn't great, but it could be worse.

Well to use a Southern saying, bless your heart. You can have it. Me, I do not want the WORST SUMMER EVER again. It has been torture on our A/C bills, our nerves, my running and my body. Again, if you like this, you can have it sir. I do not mean that as a slam, but I would rather have a cold winter over an extremely hot summer any day.

Saw this comment on Jessie Ferrel's Accuweather discussion yesterday discussing what is now TS Lee:

"An amusing comment was posted on our Tropical Depression 13 story yesterday:

"The latest AccuWeather.com consensus is that little or no rain from the system will reach very far into the neediest areas of Texas and Oklahoma. I'll have to water the grass with my tears""'.

I work outside all day building pergolas. I enjoy the sun because if I didn't it would be gloomy and rainy outside and difficult to get up in the morning. I don't have AC in my place so I see no increase in my bills, and I don't use my car AC so I can conserve gas. When I get in my car rather than curse my black steering wheel for being so hot I wrap my hands around it and gladly let it burn my flesh. IMO its only torture if you let it do torture, otherwise its just another beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Okay I'm getting concerned as September is the Rainiest Month in South Texas and so far nothing. And looking at the long range models their is nothing to get excited about as far as widespread rain goes :(

Here is the 0zGFS Total Rainfall thru 8 days....Looks familiar??
