something to watch

#2 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Mon Sep 01, 2003 7:15 am

Another wave in the northwest Caribbean shows some possible promise as it heads into the southern gulf. But even though this has convection, there is also an upper low to the north of this wave heading west across the eastern Gulf Of Mexico. Thus west and southwesterly shear may try to hinder development of this wave south of the upper low. The wave doesn't have a real apparent low level circulation either.

But as we're 10 days away from the official peak of the atlantic hurricane season, it's always worth watching every wave just in case. Glad you pointed that potential out RS because with the peak of hurricane season, it can surprise many to see something go from nothing to something worth talking about and warning folks about in such short order!!! I'll definitely be watching it just in case!!!

WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL FL
530 AM EDT MON SEP 1 2003

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST
FLORIDA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY:

AN UPPER LOW WILL BECOME STATIONARY OVER THE STATE AND HELP TO
ENHANCE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TODAY. DUE TO INSTABILITY AND A
LITTLE DRY AIR ALOFT A FEW OF THE STORMS TODAY COULD BECOME QUITE
STRONG WITH FREQUENT DANGEROUS LIGHTNING...GUSTY WINDS AND SMALL
HAIL. IN ADDITION SMALL TORNADOS ARE ALWAYS POSSIBLE WITH SUMMER
THUNDERSTORMS IN FLORIDA.

WHEN SKIES DARKEN THIS AFTERNOON TAKE COVER INSIDE A STURDY BUILDING.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY:

HEAVY RAINS ARE AGAIN POSSIBLE AROUND MID WEEK. THIS IS
PARTICULARLY SIGNIFICANT DUE TO ALL OF THE HEAVY RAIN THAT WE HAVE
ALREADY RECEIVED IN AUGUST. RIVERS AND LAKES ARE HIGH AND THE
GROUND REMAINS SATURATED. ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN WILL ONLY MAKE THE
SITUATION MUCH WORSE. IF YOU LIVE IN AN AREA THAT IS NEAR A RIVER
OR STREAM OR IS PRONE TO FLOODING YOU WILL WANT TO CLOSELY MONITOR
WEATHER FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS THIS WEEK.

SPOTTER CALL TO ACTION STATEMENT...

SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT EXPECTED TODAY.
