GREAT NEWS-Fabian's a fish-Thank God

#1 Postby rob8303 » Mon Sep 01, 2003 1:01 pm

The clarity that I sought since last weekend has finally arrived. Hurricane Fabian is now officially a fish. All models except the Canadian show this. The NHC forecast is to the left of the model consensus and even the official forecast shows this is not a threat to land. The E.C has been spared a dangerous category 4 hurricane. GREAT NEWS. Furthermore this data can be backed up with dropsonde information dropped in the path of the hurricane. And the icing on the cake is that the NHC is now confident of the right turn AND Fabian has already begun a WNW turn.
To all of you who said NHC was probably right and said this was a fish right from the beginning, congratulations.
BTW, What's up with the 20/60 rule? Seems silly to me. Fabian's at 18.9 n and still expected to recurve sharply.

I don't think you can officially say it is a fish until it is all said and done. The models may support that (and I hope they are right), but you can't be 100% sure.

Ticka you are right Fabian has plenty of water to do anything. But one thing is for sure is that the islands wont have a landfall of a major hurricane. The only effects will be some rain and the big swells that it will generate but nothing more as the eye (19n) has cleared all the islands that are at 18n.

Yeah ticka until it passes the 66w longitud I can't let my guard down but anyway chances are at 95% that Fabian wont affect directly PR,the VI nor the northern leewards but as I said before the tail behind it will bringimg some rain .

It's not "officially" a fish ... whatsoever. It's not officially an East Coast threat either.

Model Guidance shows more chances than not that it might be a fish, but this doesn't mean that it will be a fish. A couple of models advertise a Bermuda hit, not exactly a fish either.

Anyway, we cannot declare this a fish until after the storm is done.

NHC says "too soon to rule out some impact to EC"

#16 Postby Steve Cosby » Mon Sep 01, 2003 3:39 pm

5PM EDT discussion says "IT IS STILL TOO SOON TO RULE OUT SOME IMPACT OF FABIAN FROM THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES NORTHWARD."

That's the first mention of the East Coast, right?
