Yucatan channel

Anyone think the focus is going to shift from the leftover convection in
the southern GOM to what is approaching the channel between Cuba and
Yucatan? Looks ominous to me.

Agree. This S/B the area to watch. COULD develop quickly since high is building in over it. :o

The convection in the Yucatan Channel isn't too far south of the northwestern Caribbean, thus I believe it is the same system.

Indeed, something to watch with an upper level high building over it.

Is this the system that is being forecast to cause flooding in Florida? And if it tracks northeast, how would it influence Fabian?

Hello Suncat... nice to see you continuing to post.

Yes, the Flood Watches that have been issued for Florida are in reponse to this potential tropical development in the Yucatan Channel. The activity is forecast to move toward the Sunshine State this week.

The general steering pattern from the northwestern Caribbean, Yucatan Channel and eastern Gulf of Mexico is toward Florida and up the east coast; thus Hurricane Fabian is still expected to make more of a northerly turn in the next day or two.

From what I have heard suncat..it would tend to protect the east coast even more by disrupting the upper air enviornment and pushing Fabian e or ne :roll: I am pretty sure thats correct.. :wink:
