Yes !!!!!!!!!!!
Lindaloo we dodged a very big bullet of inmense catastrofic proportions but I understand your worries Lindaloo because you see the system omminous so close to the islands and in fact the southern fringe of it already has arrived in the northern islands with some showers but nothing more that that.Only the big impact will be the big swells that will arrive in the coasts of the islands but apart from that and some rain nothing else.
But the CV season is not over by any means and now we are watching 96L and behind that because we are at prime time now.

we've got some clouds on St. Maarten but no rain and very little wind, but high surf!
and I think the high surf is just starting. it will probably get worse tonight.
all of us in this neighborhood were very very lucky this time around. I remember Luis and was not looking forward to another one that big
whew!......for now anyway

Very good msbee that we dodged that monster. But I also remember Luis as it came close to Puerto Rico and at the last moment it deviated to the north going away with those 140 mph winds.By the way msbee that is my first name Luis that you experienced there and I know what is that about as I had 3 landfalling hurricanes in my lifetime Hortense,Hugo and Georges but the biggest impact for the island of Puerto Rico was Georges that crossed the island from east to west.I dont want anyone to experience what you endured in S T Marteen and here in PR because it changes the lives of the people for many weeks.

Linda
those of us who are in the islands have gone through many of these storms and , as cycloneye says, it changes your life
I think since Luis hit St Maarten, many people have never been the same actually
Cycloneye, you have a good first name
one that all SXM people will never forget
Hugo and Georges hit here too, as did Bertha and Marilyn and Lenny, but Luis was our biggest and the one that caused tremdnous destruction
we actually had 6 hurricanes in 5 years from 1995-2000
It's funny, but after experiencing a category 4 hurricane, a category one doesn't seem so scary

Agree msbee a cat 1 is not too scary but from cat 2 and up no way.And by the way the name Luis was retired so I wont be hearing my name again as a storm or hurricane.

I can't even begin to imagine the horror of a CAT 4 storm on an island. Where do you actually go to seek shelter? I did not have the pleasure of meeting Hortense or Hugo, but I did get to meet Georges. He made landfall here on the MS Coast in late September of 98 as a CAT 1 possibly a CAT 2 storm. And you all know what Hugo did to South Carolina.

Here in Puerto Rico Lindaloo the schools are the shelters for the people who live in flood areas and in the mountains that may have mudslides.

That is great news msbee about your home. I have heard horror stories about survivors of Andrew in S. Florida.
I have heard horror stories about Camille too. The buildings swaying, floors buckling, buildings breathing in and out. NIGHTMARE!!
Hopefully, the islands will be spared from these type storms for a long time to come!! But if they do, know that we are in your corner!!

The islands are at hurricane alley and every year we have to look to our east to see what is out there that may threat us but we have to deal with it every year however we are prepared for the worse but hoping for the best.

Ceye, you and all our other family down there are going to be on the edge of your seats again if 96L comes a calling. Hope not!!
