Dangerous surf the next few days along the east coast
While the center of Fabian will stay several hundred miles off the US coast, its effects will be felt. Dangerous surf and rip tides are likely from GA northward the next few days as Fabian moves northward. It would be wise to stay out of the surf during this time period. Would not be surprised to see news storys about drownings.

Totally agreed. I was at the beach in Atlantic City a few years back when Hurricane Luis was a few hundred miles off the coast. I decided to go into the ocean for a dip. I only went in until the water was up to my knees. The next thing I knew, an 8 foot wave seemingly came out of nowhere. I only had time to turn around before it picked me up and slammed me down. It felt like I had been tackled by the entire Tampa Bay Buc defense. I was able to get up and wobble back to the beach, completely out of breath and aching almost everywhere. Let's just say I will not be going into the ocean again when a strong cane is that close! :o
