Nothing here but clouds...no venus, no sun, no rain. BUT, the chances are real good in the next few days, so the rainy season should keep going!

Oh yes, I think it is safe to say that the rainy season is finally kicking into gear. Just checked the rain gauge and I measured an estimated 2.30 inches in some very slow moving thunderstorms that moved through this past hour. This is the first big rain amount we have had since Beryl came through here last week.

Good news is that more of this is on the way for tomorrow into Thursday as a stalled out front along the northern Gulf coast combined with the abundant moisture pouring in from the GOM is converging on the Florida peninsula. Many of us should see a significant dent in the drought by the end of the week.

Despite drought warnings, we really have not had drought here in New Port Richey. Rains have fallen this spring. It is, after all, the dry season but March, April and now May all were above average - not by much - but above. June is beginning wet. Today we missed most of the rains, but a 10 minute downpour left 3/4" . More due Thursday.
Even this winter, albeit dry, was typically dry. Rains were not frequent, but they did fall, and usually in large amounts. Perhaps being so close to the Gulf has helped. My yard is so green and overgrown. Orchids are thriving. Palms are throwing out new fronds. This has been great! 8-)

Good morning folks!

Last night, that stationary front which has been hovering around the Florida-Georgia border since Tuesday slipped just a tad south and sat directly over the Jacksonville area.

The boundary triggered a train of slow moving thunderstorms along the I-10 corridor from Live Oak east through the Jax metro area which triggered very heavy rains once again last night. I measured over 3.5 inches last night at my location, bringing my total since Tuesday to near 6 inches. Looking at the local news early this morning, there are some areras in Jax with localized rain amounts since Tuesday to over 10 inches. Localized flooding in areas of Jax are possible today. This was a very localized event as the line of storms basically was straight west to east and trained over the same areas last night as they moved east.

The stationary boundary is basically right on or just south of the I-10 corridor and will trigger more thunderstorms across the area today. It is already raining this morning in the Jax metro area. Hope others around the peninsula get in on these beneficial rains as this boundary is forecast to drift slowly south over the next couple of days. It is great to finally get the rain after such a prolonged period of drought through the region.

the deep moisture plume is really targeting central florida from now through friday. this set up favors at least some locally torrential rainfall. a drought buster.

You may not have had it bad (drought) where you live in NPR, but we sure have. We live in an area with many small (and shallow) lakes - most of which are bird estuaries. The lake we live on was dry until the past couple of days. I do agree that it isn't as bad as the last drought - but bad enough.
I am very thankful for the rain - even if it does mess up a few weekend plans. Maybe my grass will grow enough for my dogs to actually have a yard this year.

And it just keeps on raining, just about all day on and off showers, storms and downpours. It ALMOST feels like Seattle or London (except the dewpoint is 74F) lol :-))

This is a wonderful sight to behold on radar this afternoon. Just about all of North and Central Florida is receiving some much needed rain to put a dent into the drought. It has been a long long time since I have seen the entire region completely covered by rain. We can thank the stationary front across the northern peninsula and the abundant moisture plume out of the GOM converging over the peninsula for this much needed rain. Have to check to gauge when I get home, but as of 8 a.m. this morning, I had received right at 6 inches of rain dating back to Tuesday. I'm certain a lot more will be added to that total when I check the gauge a bit later.

and it keeps on raining and pouring and thundering! almost 2 1/2" in the gauge as of 430pm and it has not stopped. My total for June is now near 6". Total for the year is 22"+. roughly. But, some sunshine would be nice...just for a change! Tues was the last day of school, yesterday last day for teachers (me) so now, some nice weather to enjoy...please? Ya know, sunny days with late day storms. Maybe. :P

We are under flash flood warnings for metro Jacksonville and St. Johns county. Just got home and indeed we have several roads flooded in the metro area. Just checked the rain gauge and another 2.5 inches of rain has occured at my location. Total here since Tuesday now approaching 9 inches.

Since Beryl's landfall here on early May 28, the total rainfall measured here now has surpassed 17 inches and it is still accumulating. Talk about a nice significant dent in the drought. I have picked up more rain in this 11 day stretch than I did for the entire year to date prior to Beryl coming through the area.

Great to see most in other areas of the north and central peninsula getting significant rainfall today!

I am now at just about 7" for June. It poured again last night with more thunder. a Few sunny, dry days would be nice to allow all this rain to settle in (and so I can mow the knee high yard). I swear I can see the grass grow before my eyes.

And still under a flood watch till 9PM for:
Duval, Clay, and St Johns Counties.

Another 2-4 inches of rain is expected today to areas that have already seen 5-10 inches in the past three days.

Yeah, my new pool is unused. I should have just let the rain fill it up lol....

Add another 1.3" (Fri) to the tally for nearly 8 1/2" of rain for June, nearly 14" since May 23rd. I'd say the rainy season has established itself.

drought cancel. we could actually use a break from the rains. rarely is there a happy medium with convective rainfall but in this case the speed with which we went from parched to waterlogged is pretty amazing.

You are not kidding. In two weeks time, I have measured just under 18 inches total. That is a pretty good dent put into the drought for sure.
As jdray indicated, we are under a flood watch until 9:00 tonight for the region. The stationary boundary that has helped caused all of this rain over the peninsula this week is now slowly moving back north again today. We have already seen a ban of rain move through the past hour, and heavier thunderstorms from the south and southwest are expected to develop later this afternoon into the evening and move onto the region.

You've got me beat by a longshot...i was too far south to cash in on Beryl. despite that we've had excessive rainfall and the rainy season is in full swing. next week's US drought monitor update should look much different for florida.
