You are not kidding. In two weeks time, I have measured just under 18 inches total. That is a pretty good dent put into the drought for sure.
As jdray indicated, we are under a flood watch until 9:00 tonight for the region. The stationary boundary that has helped caused all of this rain over the peninsula this week is now slowly moving back north again today. We have already seen a ban of rain move through the past hour, and heavier thunderstorms from the south and southwest are expected to develop later this afternoon into the evening and move onto the region.

You've got me beat by a longshot...i was too far south to cash in on Beryl. despite that we've had excessive rainfall and the rainy season is in full swing. next week's US drought monitor update should look much different for florida.

Yeah. I agree. But don't worry. I think you will get more than enough opportunities for rain down in that part of the peninsula in the coming days. Although we did get beneficial rain from Beryl here in my area, I have a feeling that there will be other "homegrown" systems that will threaten the peninsula as we progress through the hurricane season.

Meanwhile, what a synoptic setup today which is causing the flooding rains along the North Central Gulf Coast. Two triggers(stationary front and the Upper Low in the western GOM) funneling the miosture right into that region. Major flooding in Pensacola and Mobile areas.

* Locations impacted include...
Whiting Field... Wallace... Springhill...
Skyline... Roeville... Point Baker...

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Monday morning...

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of southwest Alabama and
northwest Florida... including the following areas... in
southwest Alabama... lower Baldwin... lower Mobile... upper
Baldwin and upper Mobile. In northwest Florida... coastal
Escambia... coastal Okaloosa... coastal Santa Rosa... inland
Escambia... inland Okaloosa and inland Santa Rosa.

* Through Monday morning

* an upper level system combined with a stalled frontal boundary
will linger across the region through early next. This will
continue to allow several rounds of heavy rainfall to affect the
area. Heavy rainfall has already fallen across the watch area today
with as much as 10 to 14 inches across portions of southern Mobile
and Baldwin counties in Alabama and southern Escambia and Santa
Rosa counties in northwest Florida. Additional rainfall amounts of
4 to 8 inches are possible through Monday morning. This will
aggravate this ongoing flooding situation in addition to causing
new flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

534 am CDT Sat Jun 9 2012

... High rip current risk remains in effect through this evening...

* timing... through 7 PM this evening.

* Impacts... a high risk of rip currents means wind... wave... and
tidal conditions support the development of widespread
dangerous rip currents. Rip currents are life threatening to
anyone entering the surf.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards and the beach
patrol. Pay attention to flags and posted signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... do not panic. Remain calm
and begin to swim parallel to shore. Once you are away from the
force of the rip current... begin to swim back to the beach. Do
not attempt to swim directly against a rip current. Even a strong
swimmer can become exhausted quickly.

Please visit the following website to share your thoughts on the
new rip current hazard...

it is just obnoxiously hot and humid today. temps are running in the low to mid 90's and dewpoints are in the mid 70's producing 100 to 105 heat index numbers across west central and southwest fl. high octane air for sure and a rude awakening from the recent rain cooled temps. I need some time to adapt to this!

Of the top 5 wettest days in Pensacola, three occurred from tropical cyclones (denoted in bold). The wettest day was caused by Tropical Storm #11 (1934), while the one in 1956 was caused by Hurricane Flossy, which flood parts of Grand Isle and New Orleans.

Florida drenching is coming to a close, but not before nearly two feet of rain falls in some parts of Florida. New page has gone live with a focus on YOUR weather as YOU see it. Check it all out below.

I saw heat index reading over 110F in the Tampa Bay area, and yes, quite a rude awakening. But it has fallen to 73F this morning which is a nice relief. This drying out is just what the doc ordered!

Nice to know I live in one of the few parts of the state to still have below normal rainfall over the past two weeks Image

The stunning thing is to look at rainfall deficits going back over increasing amounts of time and seeing the recent heavy rainfall fade out. So despite all that rainfall, most of the state is still below normal over the past 8.5 months. So, the heavy rainfall of recent days really puts into perspective how dry things have been over the past two years.

But it's nice to finally start getting rain again - now, to just iron out those wrinkles about spreading it out over space and time. All that rain, so quickly doesn't do anyone any good.

Thetruesms and JonathanBelles, thanks for providing the maps and the blog link in the order of references.

Those maps really tell the story thetruesms. It has been an unbelievable last two weeks in terms of rainfall across Northeast Florida thanks to Beryl and the stationary frontal boundary which hung around all last week into this past weekend. I have measured just over 20 inches total at my home location since Beryl's landfall May 28.

My prayers go out to those in Pensacola who have been devastated by the flooding in that region. 2 feet of rain in some places out there in 24 hours time. That is just mind-boggling.

I think other drought stricken areas in the peninsula will get their share of rain soon as the rainy season definitely has kicked itself into gear. South Florida definitely received a lot of rain during May, and now the northern peninsula and portions of the panhandle is now getting it. Mother Nature is answering our calls to bring rain, but we certainly don't want her to bring it in the manner of what took place in Pensacola this past weekend.

Rainfall amounts for the past 30 days in Florida. You can see where Beryl and the stalled fronts made their mark.

I'm in Fort Lauderdale for a couple days, and I just got caught just outside of a severe thunderstorm warning. Incredible lightning and pretty heavy rains. Great adventure.
