Well, that front which stalled out most of the week and shifted just south of the Gulf Coast on Thursday has shifted back to the north again today and really triggered some impressive rain totals. There is quite an impressive synoptic set-up today triggering the flooding. Along with the stationary front, compounding the situation is an Upper Level Low in the Western GOM, which is serving as a pump to funnel moisture directly into the coasts of Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida panhandle today. Hope everyone stays safe out in the Mobile and Pensacola areas today. Already over 15 inches of rain reported in southern Mobile county and over 10 inches reported in Pensacola.

Unfortunately that same area has just experienced some more torrential rains which are now heading into the Pensacola area. I have heard at least one report of 18" in Pensacola and I imagine S AL has had some of the same. Everyone stay safe. Turn around don't drown.

According to the HPC's special report, there is one spot in western Pensacola that is likely up to 22", and probably will surpass the 2 foot mark

I emptied our range gauge yesterday, when the rain finally eased a bit so I could get outside to it, when it was overflowing (which meant at least 6 inches). Now it's approaching 4 inches and we have more rain coming in from Mississippi and the Gulf. So that's almost 10 inches here (West Mobile). Thankfully we live in a high spot where we've never experienced flooding, but we have friends who were flooded in yesterday just South of us. We're ready to dry out!

It's just a shame that you have to get drought busting rain all at once like that. You may as well have had a tropical system slam into you.
