:D Highest yet this year me thinks. And here is their long-range including today's:

Someone pinch me, I'm dreaming :D . While I don't live there, it must be torch and more torch. Today is the hottest I've felt so far and its really building quick.

Wow, I actually thought Windsor ON just missed the record by 0.8ºC when looking at the records but then looking at the last 24 hours showed a late maximum of 38ºC at 6:00 pm (wow) and even more crazy is the temperature dropped from 38ºC to 18ºC in 1 hour!! That's one of the largest drops I can remember because of a severe thunderstorm (which is the 2nd one in a row now). Windsor had a Humidex of 47 at its peak and 2ºC over the TWN forecast of 36ºC.

The record it broke was a very impressive one set back in 1911 (there is that year again :D ) of 37.8ºC (talk about slim margins). That value back then was the highest one in all of July that year during the most severe part of that huge heatwave that lasted 16+ days (not officially). 2012 is currently beating that one and on par with 1988 (one of the hottest summers ever).

Windsor ON yesterday:

Image

Good stuff. And here is their short-term forecast including the overnight temperature:

Image

 :D If this verifies, then that will be the highest overnight low I've ever seen anywhere in Canada. Humidex is also quite something.

So Windsor ON and other areas to the extreme south had Humidex readings of 48 on Friday, sounds good to me! That was the highest yet in Canada this year and only 2 points below last year's insane 50+ also in Windsor on July 21. For the first time in memory, Windsor also showed a "poor" reading for air quality on TWN (for some reason it never goes higher than medium even though we all know its way past that often :P ). Currently when I tried to see Windsor's current conditions, it said "Data for this section is currently not available" for every product on the page! I've never seen this...the PMX engine at TWN must have exploded due to the awesomeness of this heat. Looking at the last 24 hours though, it showed 27ºC with a Humidex of 39 at 2:00 am EDT which is borderline  .

Image

Upcoming conditions for the US but I would put the south in normal %'s. Ironical that the CPC put that exact area (southern parts) in higher than normal probs. of getting hotter conditions this summer. Its going to be the west's turn to experience unreal heat. Maybe it will spread east and set up a monster death ridge over all of Canada and the US to give us the ultimate July heat that would even make the 1930s look cool :) . I have tears of joy of such a historic heatwave and similarities to 1911, my dreams are manifesting into reality. Although Ontario and other parts of Canada aren't getting record shattering conditions (yet), its enough to take away my allergies. The record books are "groaning" yet again.

The death toll from this Heatwave now is at around 43 which surpasses last year's mega-heatwave. There seems to be a lot of sporadic power outages all over the place from various severe events and brown-outs. This is making for hellish conditions and I'm hearing things like, "Worst 8 days ever" and "Worst 4th of July ever."

tropicana, with Hamilton getting to 37.5ºC yesterday did they brake the daily record?

Hey cyclenall... the high at Hamilton Friday was 35.1C so it missed the 1988 record of 35.7C by a few notches.

Also the official low so far in Windsor today, Saturday has been 26.1C so unless there are any thunderstorms to drop the temperature later before 2am ET tonite, that's a pretty high low temperature...even for Windsor.

The highest that I know in Canada occured during a freak event in Winnipeg... 28.3C(82.9F) on July 12th, 1936, a day after their all-time high of 42.2C(108F).

I say fluke because that day is the only one in Winnipeg's history that the low was above 25C(77F). :ggreen:

So that Hamilton stat was wrong I guess. Where did you get that 26.1ºC stat from for Windsor? It turns out it did indeed not drop below 27ºC all night so they certainly had a hot, steamy night. That was from TWN. 2am ET tonite? NOt sure what you mean here but if you mean 11:59 pm EDT, then no, because the cold front came through.

Now I know. Makes sense the highest overnight low would come off the heels of the all-time high.

You know what I meant, but on the other hand....

Lawns all over southern Ontario are already turning dark yellow, ahead of last year. Maybe a flash drought.

yeah cyclenall! the overnight low on friday night for windsor was 26.1C from the synops ( it fell below 27C in between the hourly oberservations) however... showers late saturday night dropped the temperature down to 21.6C anyways...so the official low for Saturday july 7 for windsor goes down as 21.6C. The meteorological day is measured 2am to 2am, so it would have had to remain above 26.1C until 2am Sunday
