With the winds coming from the north, are we now on the backside of a stalled low pressure system?

It's a combination of a few things. The heat ridge up north has broken down and we are caught in a weakness. A trough axis moved west, under the ridge, across the northern gulf states, and is now caught over Texas and has stalled. That continues to pull-in moist, tropical, unstable air over the state. Add to that afternoon heating and some minor disturbances, and we are getting a daily outbreak of scattered storms. In the next few days, a front will move down and drape across the state, increasing the rain threat even more. Hope this helps.

Awesome, sir! Thanks for the info!

Lots of thunder and lightning. Spurts of inconsistent heavy rain at the weatherdude center. Looks like we were are on the northern fringe of the cell on the north side of Austin. Kept back building north. Bring it! :D

Glad to hear about rain down home. I did make it to Colorado after all and am enjoying these powerful afternoon mountain monsoon thunderstorms, and they can sure build up here in a hurry. I've been out on trails and storms appear from the other side of the mountain where I cannot see them and all heck breaks loose. Its not like back home where you can watch a storm for miles and miles and miles and hope it hits you, if you are on a large mountain you can pretty much guarantee its gonna rain on top of it in the afternoon if there is moisture present.
Its interesting how these mountains really churn the atmosphere and create their own weather, so things aren't as dependent on large scale systems moving in to get things going, but they do need moisture. Anyway, things are getting wetter up here since I got here and the air is getting clearer so maybe fewer fires for July. 8-)

Hopefully, you're Colorado and the rest of the West's good luck charm. :) I'll be out in Colorado in September visiting my father. Hoping to see a few white caps by then and hear the golden Aspens shimmer in the wind.

The cooler weather sure has been a welcome sight! I just got home (Sunday) from visiting North Carolina and ran into some pretty bad storms around Baytown, but I welcome all the rain this beautiful state can get!!

We were in the track of the storm that moved south out of Williamson County and we had several minutes of heavy, heavy rain. We also had winds around 60 mph that broke some small tree limbs but only minimal damage so I am very grateful for the rain.

Sorry I couldn't report earlier ... was tied up in a work meeting when the "fun"-derstorm hit downtown Austin. Drove home in the tail end of the storm and witnessed some amazing cloud-to-ground lightning in south Austin.

The Portastorm Weather Center received a little more than one inch of rain!! :)

Congrats! :) Even the driest place in Texas, our farm, got in on the action with around .5 inches by the looks of radar today.

Brand new day full of rain today? :)

I can hope here in Austin! Looking good though, hourly forecast shows 100% chance of rain this afternoon. I would love for the rivers to fill up so I can go tubing.

windnrain ... I'm assuming you are in the Austin area based on your post. How about updating your profile to include your location?! And that goes for the rest of you who haven't done this already!

This just came in from Jeff Lindner:
Since 500am this morning radar indicates a small area of 6-9 inches of rainfall near Webberville.

Bastrop County OEM has issued an evacuation order for all residents on Comanche Trail off of FM 969. If trapped residents should call 911…the fire department is en route to conduct swift water rescues.

Radar shows a small area of very heavy rainfall continuing along the Bastrop/Travis County line nearly stationary. Additional rainfall of 1-2 inches may occur and this will worsen ongoing flooding of small creeks that are already out of banks.

Yup, I am in the Austin area, although I will be moving back to Baton Rouge in 3 weeks. My location is a little wonky right now :)

Hehe I know you feel. I have been a little do-nut of nothing for the last 4 days, while everyone else around me gets soaked repeatedly. I'm still waiting my turn for something, anything more than thunder, mist, and clouds.

And how is that wish working this morning sir?  Low pressure appears to have set up right over your house and is not moving. Did you lasso and anchor it? My guess is your rain gauge is quite full at this time. :cheesy: I just emptied 1.58" out of mine, all of which fell from 1am-9am and it is still raining steadily here in my area of W. Houston. My son in the Cypress area estimates over 4" this morning at his house based on his last gauge check and how hard it was raining when he was finally able to leave the house and be somewhat safe driving.
