This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Disturbed area/ULL off NE Florida coast

#1 Postby northjaxpro » Mon Jul 16, 2012 1:49 pm

I know things are very slow in the Atlantic basin currently with wind shear and the Saharian Air Layer keeping a lid on waves developing out there. However, the area just off the east coast of Florida and in the Bahamas is at least an interesting feature close to home to watch. An Upper Level Low just off the NE Florida coast and an apparent area of difluence in the Bahamas have caused convection to expand somewhat during the coruse of today. Looks as if the main vorticity is in mostly the mid- upper levels at this time. I am not expecting any development in this area as surface pressures remain very high in the region as well. But, just something to at least chime in and chat about while we are in a big lull in the action in the tropics currently. Image

NEVER, EVER SAY NEVER in the tropics and weather in general, and most importantly, with life itself!!

Brought some very heavy showers to Hobe Sound, I bet we got 2-3" in a few hours.

It's a double TUTT with the main TUTT near NE FL and the other moving west through the SE Gulf of Mexico.

Looks interesting. I'd give it maybe a 20% shot at developing. Something to keep an eye on, but probably won't be much of a threat to the East U.S. even if it does develop.

Seems to be moving west or WSW inland near Jacksonville, don't know if it will make it to the gulf though. A TUTT usually takes a while to work their way to the surface. The models doing anything with this?

Look to the east of the ULL over Jacknsoville, near 29N & 77.5W not at the ULL

If there is ANYTHING at the surface it appears to be near 30.3N/81W, or about 25 miles off the coast east of Jacksonville. Looks like no development out of this system.
