St. Petersburg Airport recorded a gust to 77 MPH today. That is very impressive for a Severe Thunderstorm. The other 3 times this summer I had severe thunderstorm warnings the maximum wind gusts were no where close to that. I live a few miles north of the Airport but was in Tampa when the severe storm hit St. Pete. It was pretty windy in Tampa but I was inside so it was hard to tell. I got back to St. Petersburg around 6 PM and saw some signs ripped off of shops and lots of palm fronds down. A few tree branches were down as well. I did not, however, see any structural damage on my drive from Tampa but then again I was north of the station.
The minor damage I saw is consistent with 40-50 mph winds but then again I did not witness the storm so who knows. It is possible that the highest winds were south and west of my area in Northeast St. Pete.
Go Figure. The big storms happen near my home when I am away lol. I must act as some kind of shield when I am home.
I have my camera ready in case we see a repeat of severe thunderstorms tomorrow. This time, if we see a ridiculous 77 MPH storm, which I highly doubt will happen, I'll upload it for all of you storm2k people to see.

I heard that, too. The storm was real nasty on the radar. The ones that blew through here, New Port Richey, the past few days were also nasty and windy but not anywhere like that storm. The rain just keeps coming. Over 13" for July. June was over 24" due to Debby. They are PROMISING sunnier and drier weather for a few days. That would be nice. However, the mornings are wonderful due to the rain-cooled air!

Re: Florida Weather
I never thought I would say this but I am done with rain for a while. We had over 28" in June and no thanks to Debby for the two roof leaks.
I will take clouds to help keep the temps down as we have ongoing roof repair but please no more rain. We still have neighbors that have moats for yards. Pasco County is totally saturated - still.

Ex-91L remnants pounding the Jax area early this morning. I have measured nearly 2 inches of rain since it began at around 3 a.m. this morning. Thankfully, 91L did not spend more time over the open waters or I think this had a shot of spinning up into at least a TD. But, now the deep tropical moisture is right on top of us now and it is absolutely pouring with dangerous lightning out there.

This westerly fetch has been dominant for appx 3 weeks now and the summer rainy season has definitely been slowed here on the west coast. Other than one good storm about 10 days ago, it has been getting drier while inland sections to the east coast have been wetter. It has been a week since the last rainfall, and that was about 1/4". Thunder almost daily, and for hours, as the storms and showers drift inland. When is this pattern to change? Only 4 weeks or so left to the rainy season so it would be nice if it returns for a final hoorah!

The Tampa Bay area is really getting pounded by storms this morning. Rainfall rates are being measured at 2 inches per hour as storms are training in from the Gulf. NWS office has flood advisory issued for the greater Tampa area.

Re: Florida Weather
What's all this squally weather out ahead of Isaac? I know these aren't yet outer bands...but it's weird, like a strong tropical wave out ahead of a tropical storm.

Re: Florida Weather
Tidbit from Miami NWS on 9/4/12 for the weekend coming. Do they really think a cold front would come through this early?
The latest long range models are also showing a cold front moving
through South Florida early next week from the north. This will
bring in drier and cooler weather to the area. So at this
time...will keep a slight chance of probability of precipitation over the County Warning Area for early
next week. But the probability of precipitation might have be lower or even remove from
the zones for early next week if the long range model trends
continue to show the cold front moving through the area.

Looks like they have backed off on the cold front possibility. I was surprised they even mentioned it this early when we are just a few days into September:
LONG TERM (snippet):
ONCE THE DISTURBANCE MOVES EAST OF THE FLORIDA PENINSULA THIS
WEEKEND...A COLD FRONT IS THEN FORECAST TO MOVE DOWN THE STATE
AND WASH OUT OVER SOUTH FLORIDA EARLY NEXT WEEK. THIS WILL KEEP
SOUTH FLORIDA IN THE SOUTHWEST STEERING FLOW EARLY NEXT
WEEK ALONG WITH SCATTERED POPS OVER THE AREA. THE BEST COVERAGE
WILL AGAIN BE OVER THE LAKE OKEECHOBEE AND PALM BEACH COUNTY EARLY
NEXT WEEK.

Re: Florida Weather
Hi, I'm Taffy. I live in Southwest Florida in the Fort Myers/Lehigh Acres area. I am hopinh to see more discussions and long term model forecasts about Florida weather, besides tropical stuff. For the last few weeks, I have been feeling the slight changes in our seasonal weather. Early evenings, overnights and early mornings have been much more comfortable. The hint of Fall is there. The Starlings are back and the year round birds have been more active and noisy too. Today, my barometer of a head can feel that cold front North of us. Sigh. Most of the rain will stay North of us though. Hoping for lower humidity next couple of days. Of course drier air heats up faster, but its a dry heat. LOL. Take what I can get and be happy. So, do ya'll know where I can view the jet stream image and forecast for its location couple days ahead? Where can I find model discussions for front that may or may not come this way? I look forward to sharing. Florida weather.

Welcome Taffy! Seems like that cold front washed out but did give us a little relief. This morning was very comfortable. Then some squalls moved through around 2-3pm...heavy rains fell on and off for about 25 mins. After receiving 2 1/2" rain over the weekend, which obviously cooled us off, September has been quite comfortable. Keep it up!@ Hope the rainy season keeps up. The long range is a return to moisture by the weekend (if it leaves us tomorrow)...Greg

Happy to take what we got here! It was rather warm today, but the humidity was in the 50% range.. so very comfortable with the stiff North East breeze! The weather this evening is amazing! Such a tease
o.O
I was tempted to turn off the AC and air out the house... but I came to my sense.
