Re: ATL: ISAAC - Tropical Storm - Discussion
I live in Broward but only a few miles from the Dade/Broward line. Should I begin putting up shutters? I have a two story house which takes about 6 hours to put up the shutters between my husband and I? We need enough time as does everyone else. Opinions please.....

I have been following this little disturbance since last night when it came across Miami and through the Keys. It has a fairly decent concentration of convection. Again. observing Key West radar, there is definitely some rotation within that convection just off the northern coast of Cuba. I too definitely think it is playing a role with interacting with Isaac.
As I remember,if that is so the disturbance could "ventilate" Isaac and help instead of hinder it..Can any Pro-Met help out??

I am in Lauderdale...and this is my non-expert opinion, if you can still have time to do it this p.m., i would wait to see if the hurricane watch is extended to include broward at the 11am advisory. I don't plan to put up shutters unless we are under a hurricane warning. That's just my take on it. I am preparing for power outages, even with 'just' ts conditions....

'if' it gets to the keys.. if this new path is true, I would be more concerned for west palm beach and those areas
What is the concern for West Palm Beach?
We have a TS Warning and Inland TS Warning.
At this point I don't expect any Hurricane conditions here and they are forecasting a WNW movement soon. We should remain 100 miles or more from the center.
Now.... If it stays on a NW course and comes up the coast?
Then it's a problem.
The NHC has nailed the track really well so far so I have all the confidence that the center won't cross from east to west and will stay south of the mainland.

I would be more concerned about power outages, im heading out to beat the lines and getting 50 gallons which lasts five days, hopefully its overkill but i am not interested in sitting in lines later today, it only takes one feeder band to knock out power even in a TS, we lost power for two hours last saturday due to a tstorm...11 days in wilma and that was a low end cat 1.

Don't forget, even 40 or 50 mph sustained winds for an extended amount of time can damage any glass window or door...just because you have been diligent and picked up any loose objects around your home that doesn't mean your neighbor has..that goes double if you live in an upper floor of an apartment building..the higher you are off the ground, the stronger the wind speed..I would put up my shutters in TS conditions..better to be safe than sorry, I say!!...THE PRECEDING WAS JUST MY OPINION..I'M BARELY AN AMATEUR SO PLEASE FOLLOW NHC INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR PERSONAL INSTINCTS

Re: ATL: ISAAC - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Thanks ya'all. Yes there are four people and two animals in my house and we have about 35 gallons of water, plenty of food, batteries, etc. We will clear the patio, and outside objects for now. We have our hurricane kit out and ready to go. We lost power in Wilma for only two and a half days because we are connected to the same grid as our local middle school and I know that hospitals and schools have priority as it pertains to returning power. So for now, we will do minor preps. Thanks for your input and good luck to everyone in harms way!!!

I lived in South Miami during Hurricane Andrew (I know,a different animal than Isaac) and I remember the part of the warning that concerned me the most...the possibility of a "glass shower" off high rise downtown businesses' broken windows..not to unnecessarily scare anyone, but that is something to keep in mind IF IF Isaac comes near and IF IF Isaac is a strong (don't remember the category) hurricane..

Remember that there s a sticky thread for preparations that the folks that are in the watch and warnings areas can post about preparations. Also web cams can be posted.

Yes,the plane at recent pass found the center more NNW and is north of the 5 AM NHC forecast track.

Bad news for SFL and the keys unless it wobbles to the west later on.

I can't see that radar good on my phone. Is the center coming off the north coast Haiti? If so that would be bad indeed.

Any hurricane force sustained wind will probably pass to your south, but depending on how far from the beach you are, you could see 1 minute average winds of 40-50 mph with gusts to 70-80 mph if Isaac clips the southern tip of the peninsula. The tropical storm force winds would arrive by around mid afternoon tomorrow (3-4pm). Unless you plan to get up early tomorrow and put them up, then put them up today.
