Conditions in Orlando right now are Gray, occasional rain and a really nice breeze.
Barometer is 29.85 and dropping. So far it's equal to what we experience almost everyday during the summer rains 4:32PM EST

I'm also in Kissimmee.. but we are getting no breeze, no rain and just the eerie quiet... Waiting around for the storms to commence and for Henri to come onshore...

Well, just an interesting note.. We still have the ominous gray skies here and NO rain... but the wind is actually starting to pick up here... It might only be temporary.. but maybe we are about to see one of our French friend's rain bands lol

Inland in Polk County and its been gray with a little breeze and just a trace of rain so far. Looking at satellite Henri looks about as tough as the french army in 1940:):)

Conditions in Florida

#27 Postby TampaBayGirl » Fri Sep 05, 2003 7:00 pm

We've had light rain here in Largo (Pinellas County) for most of the day, with one band of heavy rain at about 4:00 PM...it's been dry here for the past couple of hours, though...maybe we are out of the woods?

Stephanie, I wouldn't say out of the woods "quite" yet.. the longer he just drifts and meanders.. the more of a chance of the storms at least attempting to re-form around the center... I haven't seen a drop of rain today... and we were expected to see a lot of it...

Stephanie, yes it could be... I myself will probably be around till Midnight and update if we have any drastic changes here..

By the way.. My real name is John... but 1996 Josephine was my favorite storm... It's a fascinating story as to why it was.. If you ever care to know.. I'll tell you...

Okay, sorry about that, John.

There is no reason to not watch Henri's evolution. It may flare up more convection before making landfall and even over the Florida peninsula and then, when it moves into the Atlantic, development is possible.

Then, it remains to be seen if it makes a loop off the southeast coast.

I really do think it can refire... I don't have any doubts about it... Tropical storms go through cycles and I think this one may still strengthen or at least have storms wrap around it's center if the shear relaxes or if it sits out there long enough...

Here in Fort Myers, we have had heavy rain with lightning since about 5 this afternoon.Rough guess,5-6 inches.Looking at my front yard, I now have lake front property. Looks like the rain may last for another hour or so.I didn't think we would get this much with the center so far north. Ed

Hi John...yes, I'd like to hear your "Josephine" story. I think my favorite so far has been Gordon in 2000; we went to the beach to watch the waves (normally pretty calm here on the west coast) and the wind just about knocked us over. I remember that later in the evening they closed all three big bridges spanning Tampa Bay, as well as the Sunshine Skyway. Memories.... :bgbounce:

Josephine Story....

#36 Postby Josephine96 » Fri Sep 05, 2003 11:55 pm

I was only a middle schooler during the 1996 season... I'm now a 21 year old college guy..

It was shortly after 6:30 am... I had just left on my bike for school.. The school was only about a mile away but I had to go out of the way to get the newspaper for history class.. So I start riding my bike down this long road.. I had a shortcut but something told me I should have taken the long road.. BIG MISTAKE...

Right after getting my paper.. A wind that must have been about 50mph knocked me off my bike..But I got right back on and rode off to school.. There were just strong winds.. no rain yet..

So I get to my middle school and just as I am getting on campus.. It was like a freak monsoon hit.. My clothes must have weighed 1000 pounds lol.. My body was cold.. but as I dried off it gave me quite an adrenaline rush...

This is why it was my favorite storm, because I actually got to ride part of it out.. in the actual elements.. instead of inside sheltered grounds... :)
