Easy to understand why. Wobbles are common when a storm is hammering out an eyewall core. Nothing drastic track wise is occurring here IMO. Consensus is strong.

This is what people need to see. It will go WNW then it will go NNW then it will go NW. The OVERALL movement is NW. If that changes the NHC will be sure to let us know in their next update. Stair stepping is very normal.

Ramped up to 70 mph. Isaac has one of the lowest pressures I know for a tropical storm. 990 mbar is understandable for a 70 mph system, but 981 mbar, to me, is very unusual - another reason why this storm is unique and atypical (in a good way).

Exactly...that's why I stated it. People are already proclaiming this is changing courses, when clearly storms wobble and they don't follow a straight path.

Just got home from work trying to ctach up. Been in Baton Rouge all day and what a scene. Interstate is jam packed with people headed in and out of Baton Rouge. A lot of gas stations are closed, ones that are open have lines all around them. And quite a few people out at the fire stations getting sandbags as well. Of course all the walmarts, home depots, lowes are slammed. Along with most grocery stores. Every hardware store that fills propane tanks has lines. Thank god I'm home now :)

***Off topic a bit*** but....Wanted to remind you that S2k does have a Facebook page. That would be a good place to put items of interest, web cams, emergency info, pics, etc.

Actually what I intended to say is stop the bashing. Respectful disagreement is ok. I think the comment was really over the top, but it was out of context and I did not see it, so I really can't say.

Tolakram,

This is what Joe's Tweet says verbatim:
Joe Bastardi
"form [from] noaa office in NewOrleans. predicting Katrina like values for New Orleans."

In other words, he's citing NOAA.

Here is NOAA map of flooding he provides:

Craziness ensues. I think that we in South Louisiana are perhaps a little jumpy. The local NWS is really not saying a whole lot, but the local media is hyping it up. Interstate 10 was a parking lot this afternoon, heading west. The comparisons to Katrina, well, they are not making things better, that's for sure. I am praying for all of those in the path of this storm. Please heed local officials and stay safe.

Here is an earlier microwave pass showing the almost closed eyewall:
