Re: ATL: ISAAC - Hurricane - Discussion
So since it made landfall I wander how they plan to explain the eye that appears to be developing.

While it was technically a landfall, Isaac moves over a very, very thin piece of land, and has now moved back into the Gulf on a WNW heading it seems.

Don't know if a landfall was ever officially called??? Center of the eye has to over land. System has found a niche off to the west in Barataria Bay--more water, energy to work with there.

Yes, and the Mississippi is at historically low levels

Jumped up 8 feet so far @ Carrollton and that is in upper New Orleans in river terms. The river levees are around 21 feet at this gauge for perspective. Would overflow down river before here. That picture looks like it is between the river and levee, but I can't place it either. This is one tenacious storm and we are just getting into it... not to mention the hell it raised Florida already,

Because where it made landfall hasn't had actual land since the 60s? If SW pass is land, then I'm a mermaid!

They don't have to explain. The center remains over warm water and/or marshland. Problem solved.

Whatever you may think about Isaac's ability to get organized you can't deny he was pretty good at staying over water during his lifetime.

Absolutely Janie. Most of the eye and way over half of the entire circulation is still over water or marshland is basically water to a hurricane.

The proximity ol land leads to frictional forces that can tighten up the circulation center. Same thing happened with Fay over FL. Plus the CC is still over water.

Lowest pressure I've ever seen for an 80 mph Cat 1. 968 millibars = 28.58 inches of mercury. Have seen 105 mph hurricanes with that pressure.
