Sad news from Bermuda= 4 people are missing

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sat Sep 06, 2003 6:13 am

First reports this morning indicate the sad news of 4 people missing in Bermuda after the strongest hurricane that had strucked that beautiful island in decades. The structure damage is enoumous and all day today they will be cleaning up there and hopefully no more bad news comes out from there.

No I dont know if they were on a boat or in the city of Hamilton or in the coasts of the island because it was a vague news report but for sure as the day goes on more information will come out.

I heard it was two police officers and two civilians whose cars were blown off a causeway into the water while they were trying to cross... :(

Oh no!!! I pray that they will be found.

In the news, they did mention the resort I stayed at in 1999, the Sonesta Beach Resort which is on the SW side of the island. They had to evacuate 160 people. The resort winds around a lagoon and a part of it is on a rocky ledge, but another part of it isn't that far away from the beach. another area people usually sit at is that lagoon with the pool not that far back. :(

How very sad - I'm praying already, began yesterday in earnest. My neighbor was surprised by her husband with a 40th Birthday Paradise trip to Bermuda just 2 or 3 weeks ago. She's still tan from it......I remember hearing that's where they were going. And my first thought was - it's 'cane season! Relieved to know they're not there now. Feel for those caught in harms way yesterday. The island is only 22 miles wide! Fabian I'm sure touched each and every part.

They got an unfortunate up-close example of what a hurricane can do... it is nothing to mess around with.
