First frost?

#1 Postby Scott Patterson » Tue Sep 04, 2012 1:35 pm

Tonight a low of 35F is predicted downtown:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 107.55&e=1

This Afternoon Sunny, with a high near 85. West wind 10 to 15 mph.
Tonight Mostly clear, with a low around 35. West wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

If so, there's a good chance we may have our first frost since it's usually a few degrees colder at night here than at downtown.

So far the coldest we've gotten this season is 34F (August 25), so still no frost yet.

Edit:

It got colder after I posted earlier. The official low downtown was 35F (7 am) and it got down to 32F at the house, so I guess it did freeze after all.

It was a little cloudy at 5:30 AM, but it cleared and by 7 am it got cooler.

Noticed the NAM was spitting out some near frost levels over Central MN on Saturday morning. About 8 to 12 degrees colder then the NWS forecast.

32F when I left home this morning, so two freezings in a row. Still, this is partly because the air is so dry. It's still in the mid-80's during the day (maybe not tomorrow though):

27F here this morning, but 33F at the official weather station (which is still awaiting it's first frost).

85F was the official high today.

It appears that Thursday might be the first official frost since the low is predicted to be 31F. It could be in the mid-20's here:

At the official weather station (Craig-Moffat), the average first frost is September 5, so it will be late this year, but probably not by that much.

The last official frost at the official weather station was on June 21. Until the past few days, that was the last frost of the season at our house as well.
