Just how long was Sandy over Jamaica, did it really clear the island already or still on land?

She'll be off the coast very shortly. Jamaica can't be more than ~25 miles wide at the point where she crossed.

It made landfall around 3 PM EDT and an hour and a half later the complete eye is almost at the water.

Hope that Jamaica did not suffer too much of Sandy and anyone else for that matter.

Sandy will cross Cuba in an area where there are high mountains...

Hey guys im new it may be hard to beleive but i am a 13 year old kid that loves to track hurricanes i wont be immature ive been watching this form for a while so with Sandy, i live in delaware and im worried because ive never really been through a hurricane if this storm were to hit here what would the effects be?

well, if it were to hit, it may not be tropical by the time it would hit you. you would probably get lots of rain, depending on what part of the storm hits you. also, it depends on where your property lies for a flooding situation (high up = less flooding and visa-versa). For the wind, if you have trees with lots of leaves, you might have some downed trees and power outages. A lot of the effects depend on where your home is situated and how prepared your family is. i've been through two tropical systems (floyd, irene) and was unprepared for one of them, so make sure you're prepared if it is going to hit you.

looks good on ir, structure appears to be in decent shape, need some recon to really get an idea before it hits cuba...we need to be careful with ir but those cold cloud tops are a sure sign

NHC now buying into the NNW bend in the Bahamas. Lets hope that the west bend doesn't become more pronounced.

Why would the Tropical Storm warning only be for upper Ocean reef north. Or does that incluse all of Key Largo, if you look at the watches / warning map it seems to leave most of Key Largo out of it.

We've been wondering why the NHC didn't have it as a hurricane in the Bahamas. SHIPS intensity forecasts won't work well with a system transitioning to subtropical as Sandy will be. What you don't see on the NHC track between 96 and 120 hrs is that 108hr position, which may indicate more of a hook beginning. Prime target central NJ to southern Maine. Much larger storm than Irene, though lacking an intense core as it will probably be ET or close to it by then. Major flooding likely from strong onshore flow.
