It might just be that the surface got much more disrupted by Cuba.

Probably that too, while the winds at 700mb still held up well. Given all the data, 90 kt seems appropriate right now.

Ouch, that happened to me a few months ago with the scroll-wheel. Now the left click doesn't work well either .

I think the upper levels were not disrupted over Cuba and strengthened a bit more, but the surface circulation was disrupted somewhat. Also there may be signs of some baroclinic interaction.

NW quad, which was seriously disrupted in Cuba. The east side of the storm remained well intact, but the NW quad has weak winds.
